Oh dear! Vibes for Ginny's friend Amy. I used to do lots of cycing around London for many years but only had one bad fall when I broke my arm.

Thank you, DR Doug R!  I'd been thinking about dusting off my bike and helmet and doing some riding myself.  However, with all the blood thinners I'm on, injuries like Amy's could be fatal for me.  Think I'll stick to studio cycling at the Y...

I ride a lot and have never fallen off my bike. Although I was almost hit by a car once (and this was at a bike cross walk).

I would think that if you went slowly. Or do they have bike paths where you are? Or places for bikes to ride that aren't on busy streets?  I don't ride on busy streets. And if i am going somewhere and i need to go on a busy street then i drive on the sidewalk. Most bikes do if the street is very busy. I don't find it safe to drive on the road.

Glad your friend is at least doing okay DR Ginny.

Btw, re: you trying to go biking. Are you pretty steady on your feet? Are you at all clutzy prone to little accidents? If you gave the right answers and i'm assuming you have biked in the past?  I would think that it is pretty rare to get hurt as badly as your friend. Although that said when my niece was learning to ride her bike she did fall a few times. I think though that she took her hands off the handles when she felt like she was going to fall.

The nice mail lady just brought me a BUNDLE of packages  :), not the least among them being three (count'em) more Bert I. Gordon films.  THREE.  I am feeling a bit...faint.

I do love THE MAGIC SWORD. Who doesn't love Estelle Winwood and Basil Rathbone?

So, I've written the synopsis for Acts One and Two and now I have to read Act Three, to get all those turns of story correct. It was all I could do to not insert sarcastic references into the commentary, like "being an operetta hero, he has no concern about bellowing offstage at any opportunity to reveal his identitry to the powers that could hang him." Great score, stupid libretto.

Don't know this one, and somehow missed it when looking through them last week.

It's nearly 2pm. I don't guess the damned plumber is showing up today. This pisses me off.

DR Jennifer - my friend was going fast downhill and tried to swerve to avoid a group of people.  No other bikes or vehicles were involved.  As for me riding, it's just not advisable, given how easily I bruise and how life-threatening internal bleeding would be.  Also, anything I can do to avoid having to have any kind of surgery is prudent.  Bike-riding just isn't worth the risk.

Amy should be released from the hospital soon.  Apparently her broken jaw will not require surgery, nor will her knee.  She and her husband are teachers, so at least they have the summer off...

About a year ago, in Atlanta, I had coffee with one of my Facebook Vera Bradley friends, Amy.  She wiped out yesterday on her bicycle and is hospitalized with a broken jaw, lacerated chin, a skull fracture, and brain swelling.  And, yes, she was wearing a helmet!  Vibes for her would be appreciated.

Update on my friend Amy - the neurosurgeon has released her, meaning no closed-head injury, but now they've discovered a torn knee ligament and bone chip.

Ginny...you could get something like THIS:  it's an electric, recumbent tricycle. :D

The electric hybrid 7 Speed Trike is a real transportation alternative. The EZ Rider includes:
•  the capability to travel nearly 30 miles* on a single charge on electric power alone
•  ability to allow the passenger to pedal with no electric assist, pedal and have electric assist activated or sit back and allow the trike do all the work
•  front and rear lights
•  turning signals
•  brake light
•  built in charger
•  rear view mirrors
•  dual disk rear brakes
•  7 speed transmission for easy pedaling
•  differential rear end
•  two 12V lead acid batteries
•  top speed of up to 15 mph*
•  adjustable recumbent seating, and
•  speedometer/odometer.

*Varies depending on rider and riding conditions

I thought this would be the best way to make the announcement since it would reach everyone and I don't have addresses for everyone. Asking for addresses when you're trying to keep something low-key is awkward.

It was a very small (but lovely) ceremony at the City Clerk's office. Anthony's parents were there along with our witness, Alfred, and a dear friend of mine from college (we've know each other for 35 years) and one of Anthony's uncles and one of his cousins. We went to lunch after at our favorite restaurant. It was a perfect day and it could not have gone better.

Yes, Jack, we thought the attire should be stylish but simple. No tuxes but not jeans and a t-shirt!

It sounds like my ceremony. Just the two of us, our mothers as witnesses. Then all four of us went on a honeymoon.
