There is no play or musical  -  NO PLAY OR MUSICAL - that can rise above a boneheaded Director.

I made an error yesterday, the airplane on Ventura Blvd was not a cafe or restaurant, it was a Texaco gas station that was where Du-Pars is now. Here is a photo of the place, circa 1940.

AND according to information sent to me by DR MBARNUM - if you were in Houston,Texas, during a certain week in January, 1955, you could have seen:

Brad Jackson, Diana Herbert, and Brian Donlevy in BORN YESTERDAY.

JRand, I hope you will particularly enjoy the movie COSMETIC SALES COMPETITION. Is most amusing and has some really fun musical numbers later in the film. The same gal who stars in this also stars in DUELING DETECTIVES, another fun one!

Brad Jackson and Brian Donlevy...certainly two opposite ends of the scale.

Tonight we are blocking the first six pages of Act Two Scene Two of THE CURIOUS SAVAGE.

How do you like your cast?

Or you could toddle over to the Catalina Lounge and see Torrid Toni Turner...."Miss 38-22-37" who also encourages you to support the March of Dimes.  ;D

Chris and Robin and I got a good start on the AAUW programming for the upcoming year.  I've been to the bank, had some lunch here at home, and am now settled in for some computer work until it's time to leave to visit my Mom on our way to visit Rob and Mary Linda.

Uh...yes....even in 1955.

DR TCB I like my cast a lot....unfortunately the three men who are age appropriate all seem to have developed back trouble at the same time.....so right now they are playing their parts with walking sticks and/or bent over.

And Seattle used to have the Hat and Boots gas station.

I don't remember, but I dion't think so.  It was a Texaco station in in the 50s and 60s, so I think the attendants wore Texaco uniforms.

Sad news (or maybe not) for JRand:

Debra Messing files for divorce

I don't think she ought to get any spousal support.  Surely she makes as much, if not more, than he does.

They don't say he cheated on her, but it sure looks like she had her fun.

And to think, it has been 8 years since that pregnant season on "Will and Grace" in which she looked like pure-T crap in each episode.

BK, do you have the album of Lerner singing his own songs, including several from "Love Life" and "Huckleberry Finn"?

I think I bought it a day or two ago - should be here tomorrow.

My question for ASK BK DAY:  Do you like Ray Bradbury's DANDELION WINE?

Do you have a favorite story from the book?

I do.  Can't remember all the stories in it, but I did have correspondence with Mr. Bradbury about musicalizing Dandelion Wine.  He was a gentleman and full of energy and what a life he had.

The general consensus DR RLP is that she supported him for many years during the beginning of their relationship, and this is to make things equitable now that he is gainfully employed.

I remember you writing about that....although I don't remember where....Now THAT is a musical I would love to see......done by you......not so much with Flaherty and Ahrens.

1. 2001 and The Bad News Bears

2. Not sure what you mean - do you mean songs or existing jazz tracks - if the former, I like The Graduate, if the latter, I can't think of any film that uses existing jazz tracks, but there are many films that have jazz scores that I like.

I knew Mr. Bradbury's daughter, Susie - I may even have gone out with her once, and I have a memory of chatting with her at A&M Records, I think - or some label where she was working.  And the whole family came to see Forget-me-Not Lane at the Taper and we all had a long chat after and I think I put this anecdote in There's Mel - I was driving Bud Cort home or we were all going out to eat or had just eaten (Bud, me, and the Bradbury clan) and Bud rolled down the car window and mooned them.

Thank you DR Vixmom.

It was interesting hiking with my group this morning.  At the beginning of the hike we were on a gravel path & I could hear every crunch of the gravel.  In fact, during most of the time I could hear us walking louder than the voices.  I think by the end of the hike I found a more comfortable setting on my remote.
