TOD

I've never been one for television specials, but the one that I do remember aired back n the 1950s...and I don't believe it's available on home video.

I don't even recall the exact name of it (Ford?), but it featured a terrific duet with Ethel Merman and Mary Martin.

Hurray for DR DOUG R.  Ice cubes for everyone!
And some gin to go with them.

With the few examples already posted, it's obvious there are more great specials than I'll ever remember I saw, not to mention those never seen or known about.

And thanks to DR Jrand61 for the memories of the TV Guide treatment of same.  TV Guide was, itself, special.

TOD 2:

I'm sure to remember more as the day goes on, but I just dredged up a memory of several very funny Bette Midler specials, including one with Dustin Hoffman.

In the worst category, I'd put a Liberace special I once saw a little of. I was not a fan.

Worst:
Star Wars Holiday Special, anyone?

I've mentioned this before, but trivia points if you know who wrote the score.

While the entire Ford 50th Anniversary Show isn't available (I think it was something like a FIVE hour show!), the Merman/Martin duet is on dvd and for sale at Amazon.

Hmmm....might have to give the TOD some extra thought. I know I saw TV specials back in the early 70s, but at such a tender age I am not sure what they were, or who was in them....other than the Christmas specials.

Tuesday morning greetings!  It's very humid here in SW Ohio today and our soon-to-be-replaced AC is not working.  Richard called the HVAC guys and they said we'd be put at the top of the list...

Yes ;) I tried to put my hair in a bun but I don't have enough left.

All in good fun, Ginny. I love Librarians (you too, George)

Trust me, DR Ben, I've heard it all...

Have fun being an information waiter today!

In the UK the BBC used to broadcast the Christmas Specials which Bob Hope, Andy Williams and Perry Como did. Used to really enjoy them.

My fridge/freezer saga drags on. The insurance company have agreed a replacement product and the suppliers will phone within 48 hours to let me know when delivery can be made.

Progress :)

DR Jrand61, have you watched DETECTIVE DUEL or FOUL PLAY yet? DETECTIVE DUEL stars the gal who was in COSMETIC SALES COMPETITION. FOUL PLAY is just darn fun...although I kept getting the Japanese baseball players mixed up.

Ooh, Claudelle Inglish was good! I enjoyed that one. Had never seen it before. One of these days I will get to Diane's interview and see what she said about that movie....one of these days....

Not a big fan of Michael Douglas either. But I thought Matt Damon or Brad Pitt or one of those Liberace.

I'm outta here, probably until later this evening.  Have a Middfest meeting, after which Richard and I will go to the Y and to a branch of my former employer for a program about chocolate, with a dinner stop in between.

Bye for now!
