Great photo, Ginny.

Wonderful expression of gratitude, Danise.

Wonderful lamp and shade, MBarnum.

I guess fireworks will be starting in about ten minutes or so.  It really doesn't get dark here until eight-thirty.

In the late 70s, early 80s, when I was somewhat actively enjoying my private pilot license, I would take off from Van Nuys with a couple of friends to watch the multitude of fireworks displays from above.  It's incredible how many there are over areas like the S.F. Valley and L.A. Basin.  From a few thousand feet up they look like they're exploding right on the ground, but those colorful little explosions are beautiful, popping up here and there all over the damned place.

This is the loudest fireworks I can ever remember in this neighborhood.  Normally, I can see everything that's happening at CBS Studio on Radford, but not this year - it seems they've moved it to the right and doing so almost the entirety of it is blocked by trees, whereas in previous years it's been totally in the open.  But it also seems like there are fireworks other places nearby, although none are visible from here.

DR Cillaliz, does that mean that you have not gone swimming in 10 years?

I keep wearing out my bathing suits!  In the summer, with the outdoor pool I can sometimes go 5-6 times a week.

Only a couple times. I have an old suit.  I probably go in the lake once a summer and have been in a pool maybe 4-6 times in that amount of time

I was going to go outside to watch the fireworks from the country club which is only a couple blocks away, but Callie came running down the stairs and seemed a bit upset, so I stayed in the house with them

Fireworks have been going off for the last hour or so (since I got home) and so far, my cat isn't having a bad time with it.  She's under my desk near my feet.  If I get my feet too close to her, however, she bites me...gently, but she bites my feet.  I don't know why.

Today, we spent the day at my parents' house.  We had a barbecue and chatted for several hours.  I went to my sister's house after that and lit some sparklers.  My cousin John and his wife are leaving to go back home to Oregon in the morning.  We said our goodbyes and I left and came home...and here I am....with a working modem (knock wood!).

I see that "1776" is about to start on TCM.  I'm recording it but think I'll watch some of it, at least, now.

thanks for posting this. I got the DVR set just in time

I have the DVD.  I prefer the extended laserdisc version, but no one in my family will watch it...it's too long.  I don't care.  I like it. :D

DR George, is there any way to transfer the LD to DVD (hint, hint)?

Possible...very possible. ;)

Depending, of course, on the condition of the laserdisc.  It's very old and I have another laserdisc that is already compromised.  But if it's good, it'll work.  I already have my laserdisc player hooked up to my DVD burner.

While I'm asking for the moon, do you have the complete SHOW BOAT set with 1929, 1936 and 1952 films?

I recorded the 1929 and 1951 Show Boats that were broadcast on TCM.  Do you want these?  I don't have the 1936 Show Boat, though.

Something in my office doesn't smell right. I wonder if I dropped some greek yogurt in here at some point?

The fireworks, and the police/ambulance sirens seem to have stopped for the evening. I am guessing that many people in the area were not being very cautious this tonight.
