Hi all.

Just wanted to let you know that John did pass away yesterday with Thelma at his side.  Thank you all again for the wonderful vibes.  I'm sure they helped to ease his passing.

Good morning, all.

Sorry for yours and Thelma's loss, Danise.

Cooling vibes for those facing another scorcher today.

TOD: When I was 7, we went to visit family in Germany. On the Fourth of July, we were in Heidelberg where the Americans set off a huge fireworks show over the castle. The beauty of that scene was made even more memorable by the addition of a couple of people somewhere in the crowd  bellowing "Ooooooooooooh," "Aaaaaaaaaaaaah," "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeh," "O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-h" over and over again. Soon everyone joined in.  My Mom, my sisters and I still do that every time we're together when we see fireworks.

Good morning, all! It was a night of peculiar dreams, most of which I no longer remember. I remember one about sorting music on a shelf for a camera crew.

Today, I will head to Toyland, pack up half of the orchestra parts for DEAREST ENEMY and tote them off to the McGlinnventory mail room, where they will be shipped to Dublin. After that I will kill time until I head to the  2:00 matinee of ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS. I look forward to it.

DR George, I was asking about the Complete Show Boat laser disc set because it had fascinating extras. I can live with never seeng the 1951 SHOW BOAT ever again. The 1936 one is the great one.

I actually slept late (for me) this morning.

I got up around 6:30 and had some breakfast and now I'm on the patio with the laptop.

It was horribly hot yesterday. I was outside for part of it but I just couldn't take it anymore so I spent a chunk of the afternoon in the house with the AC.

I can tell it's going to be another hot day.

We are seeing a friend for lunch, which will be spent indoors and then whatever the rest of the day brings.

I agree, though I'd like to see the 1929 version.

Audra MacDonald is talking on the news this morning about what a great role Bess is and how she's wanted to play it since she was a wee tot; that's a far cry from her pre-production comments on how this crap revisal is fixing all of the problems and holes in Bess' character and the original piece.

The 1929 version is quite wonderful, much more faithful to the novel.

My alarm clock went off at the usual time yesterday morning and I was in the shower before I remembered it was the Fourth of July.  But even so, I felt oddly energized and spent the early morning cleaning and organizing my back porch (it serves as a greenhouse and storage for yardwork tool and tends to become cluttered with whatnot during the winter and spring.)  I then ventured out into the heat to run a few errands which turned out to be easier than I anticipated since every place was open for business (even my bank!)  Though I was happy for the convienience, I feel bad for the people who had to work.

It also felt strang that it was the first Fourth of July in years where I did not go to someone's backyard picnic.  It was just too hot and humid to be outdoors for me.  Feh! on this weather, I say...

TOD:

I don't think I ever had a 4th of July meal that didn't consist of hamburgers and/or hot dogs with potato salad on the side.

I have adored Audra MacDonald for years and I loved Diane Paulus' work on the HAIR revival, but I can't get over their borderline arrogance regarding PORGY & BESS.  My anger is such that I can't yet bring myself to even listen to the recording, let alone purchase it.

Hopefully, we won't be hearing Paulus griping that Bob Fosse sexed up PIPPIN in the original production.

Am I misremembering?  I vaguely recall an opera or some kind of musical stage work based on DOUBLE INDEMNITY...

An interesting feature of the Criterion set of "Double Indemnity" was that it featured a  made-for-TV remake with Samantha Eggers and Richard Crenna. It wasn't the original, by any means, but it also wasn't the worst remake ever, either. Eggers had the smoldering sexuality the part called for.

I hear enough of the crappy new orchestrations and arrangements in the tv clips and commercials!
