Storm is not quite here yet, and now it looks like we might only be grazed by the edge.  If that.  Promises, promises.  The bigger ones now over Pennsylvania look more likely to hit.

I was reading the rest of yeterday's postings thinking they were today and couldn't figure out why I could post in response to FJL posting about a "fool" posting about Chita Rivera in Drood. I was going to ask him if he knew the fool that posted, but reading the rest of the posts I realized it was his posting. (Should have realized it)

So I a m glad I wasn't able to ask Fred if he knew the fool.

As most people know I visit my folks in Montreal quite often.

Unfortunately it is off season for the two major Canadian air lines. If I want to fly to Montreal from Fort Lauderdale (which is 20 minutes from me) I have to fly to Toronto first (usually with a several hour layover) and then to Montreal.

So at this time of year I have to go to Miami International (about 1 hour away from me) to get a non stop flight to Montreal.

I bring this up in response to a posting Vixmom did yesterday.

Even with storms down here the temperature rarely goes down. It is currently 95% which makes it over 100% with the heat index/humidity.

So I just try to stay in with the AC as much as possible.

I leave for Munich in 14 hours.  Haven't done a thing yet to prepare and now I'm off to church for the morning.  I'm staring at my passport, so that is probably the only thing I'll really need!!!   Seriously though, it will take less than an hour to pack.  All the laundry is done, etc...  Filling the ipad and ipod with music and movies takes more time!!!

Have a wonderful time in Munich.  Keith really enjoyed the dark beer, and don't forget the Hitler walking tour is very interesting.

Travel vibes, Matthew.

Lisa is one of those people who just shakes it up every few years - she's very good at it.  In two or three years, she'll be on to something new.

Vixmom, this is what I do to get through the security line quickly:

* Pack your bag so that everything that must be taken out (laptop, ziplock bags) is in one compartment so you can grab them easily without having to think about where they are. You can move your stuff to different compartments after you go through security.
* When you get to the airport, go into the restroom and remove your belt and empty your pockets. If you end up going through a naked machine everything shows up -- including your driver's license, a tissue, etc. Remove EVERYTHING from your pockets.
* Have your driver's license clipped to your boarding pass.
* While the TSA officer is looking at your license, look over the security lanes and see which ones are using the metal detector and which are using the naked machine. Big airports will probably have both going. Get in the metal detector line.
* Wear slip-on shoes. Much easier to get off and back on again.
* Put your shoes and ziplock bag of travel-size things in one bin.
* Laptops must be removed from the case. The cords don't need to be removed. Put the laptop in its own bin.
* Lay your travel bag on its side on the belt.

I have never flown out of the US, so I don't know what to do about customs.

When we first moved here we had to stop in San Francisco before continuing on to Los Angeles.  We were thrilled when a non-stop flight opened.  The flight times aren't the best though.  To go non-stop we take off from Medford at 6:30AM & return at 10:30PM.

You are very organized

I also carry extra ziplock bags in case mine rips.
I insist Keith went through the body imaging on our last trip & he insists he didn't ;D
I used to wear slip on shoes but then my sturdy tennis shoes are more comfortable to wear, plus they weigh more in the suitcase.

Vixmom, usually airlines permit one suitcase for international travel.  Canada doesn't count?

Once I don't have to carry my injection I might opt, as much as I protest it, for the body imaging vs the metal detector.  I think with the full body scan I won't need pat downs anymore because the artificial ball in my shoulder will be visible.

When I first began the pat downs I couldn't take my belt off so they let me leave it on.  My last flight was the first time I had to take it off.

We took all 3 cars to Craig's storage unit to drop stuff off.  I'm glad my car wasn't needed to the trip to the dump.  Yogi knows Craig came home & left again.  He is lying next to me protesting.

Where the hell is the storm?

I've finished reading Robert Sherwood's last play, a 1957 comedy iSmall War On Murray Hill, about the same 1776 events in Manhattan that inspired DEAREST ENEMY. I sort of liked it. It's essentially a rewrite of his 1927 comedy The Road To Rome, with General Sir William Howe replacing Hannibal and Mrs Robert Murray replacing Amytas (the 1920s comedy was turned into the film JUPITER'S DARLING), and the American Revolution replacing Hannibal's march on Rome. I like the libretto for DEAREST ENEMY better.
