Go visit any sites you want, but come here and fill up some posts complaining about those other sites and that'll be great.

At least I'll love reading about it.  :)

DR FJL - DR Matthew is about a 7 hour car trip from Disneyland in Anaheim. However, tonight he's taking the red-eye to ATL and then to MCO to get to Walt Disney World in Orlando.

DR elmore et al - Do you happen to know anything about the 1945 musical Memphis Bound! by Don Walker & Clay Warnick, and Albert Barker & Sally Benson? -It was an adaptation of H.M.S. Pinafore.

DR Dakota, is there someplace you can volunteer at?  Some times that leads to a job & at the least should help you feel productive, and in turn better about yourself.

I'm surprised, with your hearing loss, their are any agencies to help you with your job search.  Have you looked into any seminar's that help people find jobs & that practice interviewing?

I pretty much eschew fried foods these days, but I still will indulge in a good crab cake sandwich now and then.

Dakota,

you must understand something about your job situation, and I hope something comes up tomorrow once you go in with a happier feeling:

It really is the economy.  No one is trying to reassure you or comfort you.

So many qualified people are not working.  Many people who are working steadily are holding on with vice grips to jobs in which they are treated terribly by employers who know they can do so, which 5 years ago they never would have kept.

I'm an attorney, a CPA, a Harvard law grad, I'm a very capable writer, I send out at least ten resumes a week - and in the last two years have only worked for days in a row here and there, that's it -

I've had one job offer in that time (with zero fringe benefits by the way), and it was so low financially that even the unemployment insurance office analyzed it and totally agreed  that forcing me to take it would be damaging permanently to my career, so they OK'd my turning it down and continuing collecting benefits instead, as it was such a low offer which seemed to be taking advantage of the economy.

I say this not to recite my resume or to get pity (although pity is always enjoyable :) ) - but to say:

It really is the economy, Dakota.  Nobody is handing you a line to make you feel better.

Well Stated!!!

As Craig graduated from Carnegie Mellon he foolishly walked away from a good job just as everything crashed.  Now he is doing what he couldn't bring himself to do, return to school for a 2nd graduate degree.  On the upside we all think he will be happier working as a teacher, if he can get a job.

That sounds too weird not to investigate.  A Google search turned up a list of songs, including "Sorry Her Lot" mixed with something called "The Gilbert and Sullivan Blues" and "Trial by Jury."

I LOVE Marks & Spencer's.

Me too! That's where I do most of my shopping.

Thanks for the recommendation, DRs Ben and Doug R!  I'll add it to my England file for January.  There's even a store in Norwich, where we will be for a whole week.

If you like English toffee (the soft kind), try the original toffee at Thornton's.  Sometimes I can get it in the States thought my favorite, the mint toffee is getting more difficult to find.  A couple of nights ago I had a big piece of the licorice.

And after the show, I met up with DR Matthew! It turned out he was rehearsing in the same building, so... After his rehearsal and my show, we headed out to grab a beer and to talk. And, yes, it was a very "exciting meeting"! :)

Yes, it was!!  A mini HHW meet up, and FINALLY face to face with DR Jose.  We had a lovely time.

:) :)

I wanted to sleep late, but my internal clock woke me at 6:30.  At least I slept the entire night without waking once.

Even though I did not sleep in this morning, it has been nice been having time to leisurely surf the net, check emails, watch TV, double-check my calendar and enjoy my coffee and donut(s). :)

We have our second "tech" from 1:00pm-5:30pm this afternoon. Basically, we'll the show on stage again with mics and the drummer. And then we have our second presentation tonight. We are scheduled for a full day of rehearsal tomorrow, but since we have our third and final presentation on Saturday - and since it's highly doubtful that the writers and director will throw in a major chunk of changes after tonight and before Saturday - well... I believe the terms "pizza" and "beer" have been mentioned for tomorrow. ::)

When the kids were young Keith went to a conference at the Disneyland Hotel.  We kind of tagged along with Keith leaving us at his parents.  He said we couldn't go to DL on that trip.  Sometime in the morning I received a call from Keith saying he was leaving to get us.  I think he made it in record time, 30 minutes.  We had a wonderful time, especially because Keith had a big strong German co-worker with us.  She was thrilled to see DL for the first time & her enthusiasm was contagious, plus she carried Craig everywhere for me while Keith tended to Bryan.  There were a few rides Craig was too small for & I had to skip so she could go on them & Keith skipped others.

Jane --

Re the word "Coke" being used generically: There are some places in the US where the word "coke" is used to describe any carbonated beverage. I believe in the South this is common.

This child of the South grew up that way.

Southern waitress: Would y'all like a Coke, sugars?
Person: Yes'm, a root beer, please.
