As for the Topic of the Day...

The first two that come to my mind...

"Like Water for Chocolate"
"The Sixth Sense"

And I still remember being frightened by the commercials(!) for "The Changeling" when I was younger.

Today is really nice out. Very hot and very sunny. We went to the pool at 11:30am, swam, had lunch then swam till 4:10pm. The pool was so packed by 2pm. I've never seen that many people.

As I suspected, the production of Chicago I saw this eve was a bore, a dud -- just bad.  My friend was the best thing in it.  The tempos were HORRIBLE, I should have bolted when I heard the beginning of "All That Jazz", taken more at an Allegro than what it should be.  Same with the infamous "Roxie" vamp.  So fast.  Doesn't anyone listen to a cast recording anymore?  The absence of Mary Sunshine (who was still in the program) was sorta un-noticable.  "A Little Bit of Good" was cut, and I really didn't miss it.  There was one video bit where the character was still present, but they did a nice job of working around it.  Act Two was better than Act One. I wanted to leave at intermission, but I stayed.  Roxie was not good.  Her vocals were strained and it seemed like all the songs lay within her "break".

It's sad when a show like this should attract dancers and character actors.  You should be able to cast it with these things in mind.  There is a lot of talent in the area, a show like this shouldn't suffer for lack of talent.

They dropped an entire character? I believe that if the company that controls rights hears about this they can send a cease and desist order. They are rewriting the show.

I remember seeing a production Bent where they added a prologue and a scene right before the intermission. The rights holder heard about it and they had to drop the "new material."

I played a production of A Chorus Line once where they dropped Ritchie.  Couldn't cast anyone, so they dropped him from the line and cut his part of the music.

I am one tired old geezer today.

Thursday, my sister took me out to lunch and then to the Emerald Queen Casino for a couple of hours - I won $100.00 +.

Yesterday, my friend, Carole took me to the Snoqualmie Casino for lunch and some gambling - I won $400.00 +.

Two days of fun in a row and I am very tired.
That's a happy belated birthday present.

Finishing up "Middlemarch." People are ugly.  George Eliot said so. And I believe her. Great TV.

I've just finished the first draft of my new stage play.

This is the first play that I've written for THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS since the mid-1990s.  And, unlike the other 8 plays in that collection, which are all monologues, this one is a 2-person play.

I've been promoted!

Congratulations on finishing the first draft.

My plan had been to swim yesterday, however the pool is closed for cleaning until Sept 17th.  Thursday night I called and asked when the last day to swim was told the 25th.  Had I know I would have done laps yesterday.  Really annoying it that the pool was rather empty yesterday & I could have had a double lane all to myself. :(

Too many emails to take care of, and I'm still dealing with all of the mail I picked up yesterday. For a diversion, I just sent my new close personal friend Stephen Rea a thank you gift.

I need to read.  I've still got 500 pages left on the library eBook I've been reading, 3 more downloaded to read after that & one more that just came in from the library.  This feast part of "feast or famine" is more than usual.

Bk - The phone thing was really weird, though.

FJL

We have a door bell at the office so when you open the front door it rings so you know someone has come in when you're in the back offices.  As of three weeks ago it started just ringing every once in a while.  I'd get up go to the front and no one is there.  Sometimes the door is even locked.   I've been calling it our ghost but I'm sure it's just interferrence from something near the office.  I moved the plug in part and it didn't do it for a long time...until today when I was there alone and the door was locked.

I'm not saying the noise from your phone isn't real, just saying it's possible it's something innocent like our bell is.  Or maybe it's alien invaders.... :)

Damn! I started rereading Jack Finney's TIME AND AGAIN on my flight back from Dublin. I unpacked and now I cannot find the book! I just ordered another copy from eBay. I hate it when this madness occurs.

And even stranger...one night I was sound a sleep at about 3:30 AM and my phone rang.  It was a rainy windy night and when I answered it the reception was terrible.  I couldn't hear a thing so I hung up.   Next thing I knew there were two policemen at my door saying that someone had called 911.   Well, it only took a minute before they realized that wasn't the case.  They told me that sometimes when it rains, that the phone will call 911 on its own.  They told me to call the phone co. the next day.  I did and there was something wrong with the line.  They fixed it and it hasn't happened again

It's been a cloudy and dark day today.  We had a little rain overnight, but very little.  Now it's just humid and a little chilly.  I actually love it, but tonight my friends are having their annual hootie fest (Hootie was their dog that passed a few years ago)  They called it a hootenanny last year.  Anyway, it's outside and I'm not really sure about taking my flute to be outside in the damp.  I'll probably take my old one. I don't have to get it out unless I really want to play.   Right now I don't really want to sing or play, just sit  back and enjoy others.  of course I always think that until I get there, lol

DR Jed's grandfather, Milo Smith, has passed away.  When I was attending Central Washington State College (now University), Milo was the head of the Drama Department.  He was a very fine man and a great educator.
So sorry to read this.  Condolences and vibes of comfort to DR Jed.

I"m watching the Little League World Series, don't really know why....anyway the score is 24-15 in the bottom of the 7th inning. Tennessee had a 15-5 lead and California came back and tied it up, then Tennessee got another 9 runs.   It's pretty crazy, lol
