To kill some time like that, I find Mah Jong a remarkable time waster. That 3-D pinball game that comes with Windows has also taken way too much of my spare time.

Mah Jong is the reason I don't post as much these days! And I'm not the one playing it.
The change to daylight savings is the other major problem. Back to normal in October! I'll be missing from mid September to mid October.

Though it's probably not very fair for me to be talking about him while he's mowing the lawn and I'm indoors racking up posts.

I'm back from the movies, Dear Readers.

The Terminal falls squarely into the category of cinema fondly known as the "feel good movie."  And it is very, very well done.  Mr. Tom Hanks, as always, is excellent.  The only quibbles I have are that some of the situations are a little pat and predictable while some others stretch credibility, and there are a few scenes with some really annoying back-lighting effects.  Even though it comes in at over two hours, the pacing is quick and, in the end, this is a very funny--and warm-hearted--movie.

I went to google and put in clothes clips-then I added women.  The results were interesting and nothing I can post.  I really didn't expect porn from that. :o

Jane,

I have a good friend, Dolly, whose family came over (to Canada) on the Underground Railroad. For many months now, she's been researching her genealogy.

She recently moved and changed providers. When the serviceman installed her disk, Dolly told me, the most pornographic images popped up on her screen. She was absolutely embarrassed. "I just can't understand this," she told the guy. "Most of the searches I do are for slavery."

I am off to callbacks.  From five to six we're seeing some actors who didn't make it on Saturday, and then from six to nine we'll mix and match and hopefully come up with a splendidly splendid cast.

Today's column title made me think of the following:
I had a friend when I was a child whose stepfather/uncle (shades of Hamlet) wore a smoking jacket and a cravat around the house.
The stepfather/uncle eventually died and my friend became engaged. Her mother -- the widow of her father and her uncle -- seduced my friend's fiance (that's her daughter's fiance for those who are having trouble following) and wound up living with him. Needless to say that these people were all Hungarians (living in Canada).

Hey thanks DR Danise for finding the dress clip.  That is the general idea (for mine).  Just mine don't have beads like that.

From your link it looked like the person selling the item had no idea what to call it either. :)

I meant to tell you all how disapointed I am with my four o'clocks.  Sigh.  I wanted multi colors and solid colors I never had before but all I got was the same old pink and some yellows that I cared for over the winter.

None of the seeds I planted came up.  Not ONE.  I was so looking forward to my new multi colored garden.

I'll have to try buying the seeds again and hand raise them until I can transfer them to the garden.

No problem, DR Jennifer.  I just tried to remember what I bought it for and remembered I wanted something to clip my sweater around my shoulders.

I know E-bay has everything so I put "Sweater Clip" in the search and bingo!  there it was.  There were lots of others.  I just picked that one to put in my post because of the different names the person used to describe the item.

I should mention that one of the trailers I saw this afternoon was for The Anchorman.  Working on the assumption that trailers for film comedies include snippets of the best comic sequences from the film they are promoting, I can tell you that The Anchorman will be one of the worst films to hit the silver screen.  Ever.

JOSE - LOOK AWAY! LOOK AWAY!

From Vosges Chocolate

Red Fire
dark chocolate • Ancho & Chipotle chili • Ceylon cinnamon
The Aztecs believed the spicy fruits to hold mystical, spiritual, and medicinal powers. Chilies were often withheld from the Aztec diet when fasting in order to humble oneself and please the Gods. In this "sinful" ice cream, Ancho and Chipotle chilies, Ceylon cinnamon and dark Belgian chocolate combine to form a truly devious and elevating experience.

Naga
Sweet Indian curry • organic coconut • coconut milk • white chocolate
Named and inspired by the Naga tribes of the Indian North East, we have combined organic coconut, coconut milk, white chocolate, milk & cream and a pinch of fragment curry powder. This sorbet-cream (like a sorbet with a touch of cream) creates a beautiful balance in spiciness, sweetness and color. A must try for the adventurous sort.

Pandan-- Sold OutBelgian dark chocolate • pandan leaf

Enlighten yourself with the Buddha's Leaf, a dark chocolate ice cream infused with pandan leaves. Pandan leaves are ubiquitously grown in household gardens throughout Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Pandan leaves taste like vanilla wafers touched with piney and nutty notes. The leaf is used in boiling water to stream cakes and in many Thai desserts. Not only known for sweet but also savory dishes, this versatile leaf was rumored to be a favorite of young Buddha himself.

Wattleseed

Aboriginal wattleseed • Australian macadamia nuts • white chocolate
Wattleseeds are dark, chocolate-y brown seeds, which are similar in size and texture to a coffee bean. They are best finely ground to impart a delectable and addictive flavour. Wattleseeds taste like a combination of chocolate, coffee, hazelnut and vanilla all in one seed! Wattleseeds grow well in arid climates and have been a main source of protein for Central Australian Aborigines.

Jane,

That sometimes happens (to me) - an apostrophe translates into those symbols. Perhaps George (or Jay: equal time here) can explain this.

Danise I’m sorry about your four o’clocks I know how much attention you gave them.  I was also looking forward to a photo.

I remember, when I was in elementary school, having sweater clips.  They were very fashionable and practical.

Panni, does she speak to her mother?  That is a horrible story.

DerBrucer, and why did you decide to torture me with that mouth watering bowl of chocolate ice cream? :)

I need a good vegetarian onion soup recipe.  We have tons of Walla Walla onions to use.  I guess any good recipe will work and I can substitute the both.  Anyone have one for me?

Hi Noel, it’s really quiet here tonight.

Except for the owls' eerie hooting and the silent lightning.  And the Bernard Hermann score.

Well, then, I think I'll turn in.  Had trouble sleeping with the constant firecrackers going off last night.  Luckily, rain, at about 3, doused them.

This was a day in which much was accomplished, and yet much time was wasted, so it seems, in aggregate, that I didn't get enough done.

Or should that read, in aggrivate?

I went into my cookbooks and found six with onion soup recipes.  One book, an old NY Times Soup and Bread book even has five recipes.  That gives me a large selection to choose from, I just haven’t a clue if any of them are good.
