The Gin Game

I only saw THE GIN GAME once, about a hundred years ago.  So, when I was asked to play the part, I said Yes.  But when I went back and read the play I found myself offended by the last few pages of the show.  So, I  called them up and turned them down.  They thought I was being an ass.

I don't remember how it ended now --- I saw it many many years ago(when I was in College)  when it played on  Broadway and  starred  Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn
"Gin Game" started at the Actors Theater of Louisville around the time I started going there. Of course, I didn't see that play or "Extremeties" or Marsha Norman's early works in their premiere there. But I did see "Agnes of God."

Getting ready to leave for upstate NY tomorrow morning, where I'll be until Sunday evening.  I shall be checking in, but less frequently than usual.

Perhaps with cheese?

Even I don't eat those that often.  ;)

Storm rolling in. It's been irritating and I'm trying to watch a fairly good version of "Anna Karenina."

Howe Caverns, where my friends are getting married.  Not down in the caverns, though, as that can only be done if it's a small party.

And...

I'm packed... Sorta... I just keep going back and forth on a coupe of small things... And how many pairs of shoes I want to bring with me versus how many can fit in my luggage. -It really is amazing just how bulky shoes are! Well...

In any case...

Goodnight.

Top two small cast plays - Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Long Day's Journey Into Night.

Also like Two for the Seesaw, Rattle of a Simple Man (both two person plays), The Only Game in Town and Luv.

There's also the musical version of Luv, called What About Luv?  Judy Kaye (and her husband) are in this. :)
I have that CD. I don't find all that much to call me back for repeated listenings, though.

I love Judy Kaye, but it's been YEARS since I've listened to it.

Tom Bosley, Dorothy Loudon, Herbert Edelman.

That's who I saw in LUV.  August 1965.

But do I remember any of it?  Not much, sorry to say.

So -

When I got to the theatre tonight, the sound guy had baffled the entire pit with old heavy curtains, foam boards (that egg carton thing stuff) and other things to help the sound.  Bless his heart.  We had a GREAT show once we got used to our pit acoustics.  Lots of great compliments, etc.  Now, it's about having fun!!

But I gotta tell you, this show is a WORK OUT!  Tonight I had a sub-drummer, which is the worse to have.  He played well, but didn't always watch on the tempo changes and didn't always look up.  I had to resort to "ethnic movement" to get his attention and get the tempo where I needed it.  It was a work out.

And of course, I had coffee before the show so I'm WIDE awake.

I had a thought on the way home.  Our next show is Miss Saigon and I was planning on using MTI's OrchExtra along with a few other instruments.  I thought this would be a good idea since I'll never be able to fit all that percussion AND an orchestra in the pit, as it's rather small.  But then I had another idea.  What if I just used 2 pianos and full percussion... very "Carmina Burana" - I'm going to ponder this for a while.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Did you see it here in LA, because that was the cast when it played here at the Huntington Hartford Theater.
