Strange!  Now Jane's name is showing up, but she has already said good night.

Odd, I might have read an email after saying goodnight but I didn't stay on the computer long.

Yesterday, my father, Jack Shayne, was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contribution for starting The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. I am so proud of him.

That is an amazing thing he did.  I bet you were proud of him before he was this medal.  How wonderful & exciting.

DR Jane re: my niece's difficult reading books. She has to go thru six french books a week. At the level she is at (each kid is at their own level) a lot of the books are informational. Just seemed too hard to me.

That's a lot of books.  I'm surprised they can't find more interesting subjects for her level & age.  I'm sure they exist.  It is great she is doing so well.

Had a very nice lunch with Jason Graae.  I can't talk about its purpose because every time I mention something here one of our GUESTS or lurkers runs and tries to do whatever it is I'm trying to do.  It's happened just a few too many times and since I am no believer in coincidences I'm just keeping my trap shut.

Printer is here, and I have a friend coming to help set it up.  One paper says that for anyone with Lion we should download the drivers online because the included disc is for operating systems older than Lion.  However, the disc itself says 10.7 which is Lion so I'm thinking it might be all right.

DR Jane wow I am surprised that you do not have lots of extra books on your nook to read. I have twenty books I own, ten netgalley ebooks, probably at least 30 ebooks on my kindle i want to read. And that does not even include the probably 50 books my library has that are on my want to read list. It also does not include all the new books coming out this year.

I have 6 books on my library hold wish, all the are permitted for me to hold, and 28 books on my wish list.
I have about 10 books on my Nook wishlist.

The difference is that you have already downloaded your books while mine are there for me to download when I'm ready to read them.  I'm guessing most of your books were purchased at a discount which I do when I have that option.  I also download library books as they become available so I don't lose them.

Good morning, all.

Packed and hopefully ready to go. I dropped the bird off at the Tweet Suite. He was almost accommodating, but I don't think he likes his few days away from me too much.

It is nice you have a Tweet Suite for your bird. :)

SAFE & EASY TRAVELS AND HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

It dropped 30 degrees over night here. Hope that's not an omen for beach weather. Granted, South Padre is six hours south, but I'm hoping for some decent weather. Doesn't have to be summer, but I don't really want winter either.

PLEASANT WEATHER VIBES!!!!

Funny, while I was responding to DR Jennifer about my books an email from the library came in.  I now have another book available.  Once I download it I will have 3 books on my Nook.

Yah, my library does not lend ebooks to kindle. So that is not an option for me.

Yes a lot of the ebooks I get are discounted. But those weren't even the ones i was referring to. I have some enovellas for series i read and some ebooks i won.

I am practically hyperventilating. I just went on netgalley (a site when you can get advanced reader copies of books for reviewers/bloggers/librarians...).

One of my top two favorite authors ... well her new book that is coming out next summer is on there. I'm sure today is the first day it was up. And this is a publisher who has accepted me before. Right now i'm getting accepted at maybe 50%. But fingers crossed on this one. I would definitely drop all my other books to read this one ASAP.

Did you get all of these discounted or free?  I don't feel a need to purchase a book at full price until I'm ready to read it.  Also, I have purchased books only to have them become available at the library shorty after, another reason to wait as long as possible.

I'm not tracking my books read for the year on Goodreads.  I'm one book behind my goal of 150 books for the year.  I figure that is because Les Miserable should count as two books.

Have started listening to "Middlemarch" on CD. Loved this novel when I read it more than 20 years ago, and many of the details seem as fresh as when I first read it. But I had forgotten a very telling story about the young hero Lydgate, who had fallen in love with a French actress with a lethal desire to be single.

The novel is spread out over 26 CDs, but I've managed to listen to five in the last few days.

Great observation from George Eliot on people and their medicines:

"... for since professional practice chiefly consisted in giving a great many drugs, the public inferred that it might be better off with more drugs still, if they could only be got cheaply, and hence swallowed large cubic measures of physic prescribed by unscrupulous ignorance."

Waiting for someone to come help me set this printer thing up.  I think I put in the one piece that you have to install in the back - it seemed to just slide in and snap, so I think I did that right.  If the person I called isn't here in thirty minutes (it's already been ninety minutes since they said, "See you in a little while") I'll just call and have HP talk me through it.  I already have the page on their site up that has the installation instructions for the Mac Lion operating system, but first I think I have to plug in the machine and install the ink.  Just don't want to do anything wrong.

I have 182 items on my Kindle, but that includes a couple of games and just about every book that I've read (including short stories and several .pdf files that I've added myself), and a lot of books that I haven't read...yet.  I don't delete them after I've read them.  I just leave them there.

Isn't it actually five books...one for each of the main characters?  At least, that's what I remember when I started to read it in college.

Technically I believe you are correct.  I just figure in the book count it should at least count as if I read two books ;)

Most of the free books I get are not books I would read otherwise. A lot of cook books, health, kids books ...

I like it when a book that is usually $12 is discounted. This happens once in a while that you can get a great book fro $2.99.

I know, which is why you have more saved up to read.  I don't currently have any discounted books to read-read them all.
