Watching a bootleg of the recent "Anything Goes." I was expecting Sutton Foster, but I got Stephanie Block, who's really very good. The songs sound really good coming out of her mouth. Sadly, I don't think much of the production, except for John McMartin and some of Colin Donnell. Too often it seems as if Kathleen Marshall just doesn't trust the material.

I love the Sutton Foster rehearsal video of "Anything Goes."
I did, too, but the feeling of that one number doesn't translate to the rest of the first act.

Had a nice day today celebrating my brother Allen's 60th birthday. It was a surprise party, but he wasn't surprised. He had overheard someone at his work talking about it weeks ago.

DR Jane, Allen told me that his replacement FedEx driver got himself stuck in the snow and had to abandon his truck overnight while delivering. Poor guy. Allen kind of figured something like that might happen as the guy had no experience driving in snowy weather..

And I was in a silent movie mood this weekend.

And since Netflix streaming had added a lot of silents to their lineup, I watched the 1920 version of DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE starring John Barrymore, and then watched Harry Houdini's 1919 film THE MAN FROM BEYOND, which may now be one of my favorite silent films.

I also watched tonight's episode of THE WALKING DEAD. One scene made me jump out of my skin, or at least, out of my chair.

I had no time to watch anything tonight, although I did check out the region B version of Black Sunday on Blu and Ray.  Even though one "reviewer" has said he thinks the transfer is exactly the same as the US edition, I found the UK to be sharper and more detailed.  But the real news here is that the UK version has the AIP version of Black Sunday shown in the US, with the Les Baxter score.  While it's a minute or two shorter, I do prefer Mr. Baxter's score and the US dubbing to the overseas dubbing.

I am still fighting the good fight.  I may write and post the notes a little early tonight and get to bed.

I've been sick for 4 weeks now.

So I just made 2 soups.   Split pea and brussel sprout, and lentil and carrot.   That should get me through the week.

Healthy yes, will anyone else want to try them, maybe not.   ;D

It seems "Pump Boys and Dinettes" has been put on hold. I think that's a fun show.

Two different local theater groups have done this show...both quite well and successfully. :D

No one's watching the Grammy's?  I need reports.

I've watched some of it, but I haven't been paying much attention.  Once I'd read earlier that Once won the best cast album Grammy, I got all the information that I needed...or wanted.

I love that video, too!

Have you seen the video of Johnathon Groff recreating that exact number?  He's fantastic!

Finished with the judging - my real choice didn't even make the top five - but the gal who won is every good and part of her win is to do one of the Kritzerland shows.

That's too bad about your choice, BK, but I hope that you'll be happy with the gal who did win.

Right now, I'm watching a documentary, Wagner's Dream, about the new Met production of Der Ring des Nibelungen.  It's pretty fascinating.  I really enjoyed watching the Ring Cycle on PBS.  I'm seriously considering getting the whole set, which includes the documentary.

I've worked backstage at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts for some traveling shows and find this very interesting.  I already have another documentary in my Netflix queue, Sing Faster:  The Stagehands' Ring Cycle.

For anyone who's been curious about our Kritzerland shows, here's a little tease - Lisa Livesay singing my arrangement of Too Darn Hot at our two-year anniversary show:
