Thank you to DRs JRand, George, and Jane for the congrats for our nephew!  We don't know details yet, but Richard is going to call his brother (Chris' dad) this evening.

TOD: Clothing-I would like to see a return to popularity of shoes without insanely high heels. One of the actresses on the red carpet last night said she was wearing 9 inch heels. If you stepped on an uneven surface, seems like you would snap your ankle in half! I blame the porn industry for making this a requirement to look sexy. These shoes weren't made for walking!

Food stuffs...no one seems to know how to make an old-fashioned ice cream soda anymore. Bring 'em back!

DR Jane I agree aout Stacey Keibler and Sandra Bullock's dresses. Very pretty. I also thought Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lawrence both looked stunning.

Yes they did.

In addition to $111 worth of groceries, it looks like I brought home Page 4!

Just heard from Dolores' son that she had a full hip replacement this afternoon and that the surgery went well. He hasn't seen his mom yet. I would imagine she's still under the affect of the anesthesia.

RECOVERY VIBES!!!

What about her hand?

TOD, continued--

Still thinking about foodstuffs I wish would come back.  But that actually ties in so strongly with foodstuff VENUES I wish would come back, that I shall list a few.  I miss the ubiquitous cafeterias we grew up with in the 1960s.  And speaking of ubiquitous, the Howard Johnson's chain (now that I'm old enough to appreciate it!).  And Royal Castle, a White Castle imitation (but unique and wonderful in its own right) that flourished mostly in the South, I think, but there was at least one in Cleveland.  In fact, I'd have to say that Royal Castle is one of my Rosebuds, food-wise.

Yes. I could use an ice cream soda right now. Cherry was always my favorite.

I wish Allen Wertz Candies, of Los Angeles, would return with their chocolate mints sticks.  Their licorice and honey comb were also the best.

And I really mourn the dearth (and death) of true coffee shops.  Yes, there are still plenty of them out there, along with the somewhat equivalent northeast "diner" variant.  But the ones we've lost, someone should have hanged for it:  the three Ship's in Los Angeles.  Coffee Dan's, of course, which I apparently was privileged to discover and eat in a few times just before it vanished.  Mr. D's in Marina Del Rey.  I could name a few in my other home towns, but the names (if I could remember the names) wouldn't mean anything to anyone else.

I find it impossible these days to get anything even approaching great fried clams, which were, of course, a HoJo staple, although the best I ever had was at the Hamlet.  For about three years they served up a brilliant fried catfish and clams platter that was my favorite thing.

I've been printing out orders, answering e-mails, and getting ready for the rehearsal at three-thirty.  I guess I'll mosey on over to the mail place and see what's what.

TOD 2:

I wish they would bring back Wink, a grapefruit soda that Canada Dry used to make. Mexican Fresca, made with real sugar, is close.

17 inches of snow has fallen in Amarillo, Texas, today. Glad that's 8 hours or so north of here.

You need to come to San Antonio. Buttermilk pie, chess pie and a favorite of mine, lime chess pie are all available at numerous places around town.

I just wish people would dress up more today.....

NEWS FLASH:  THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PAIR OF DRESS JEANS.  JEANS ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR WEDDINGS OR FUNERALS.....JUST BARELY APPROPRIATE FOR GRADUATIONS AND EVENINGS AT THE THEATRE!!!

Very much agree with you DR Jrand62. Wanting to dress casually is usually just an excuse to dress scruffily.

I'll throw my vote in with this one, too, even though I'm probably as guilty of scruff as anyone.

I am scruff.

I am Ron.  Glad to make your acquaintance.
