This afternoon I'm joining a couple of members of Home Theater Forum at the house of one where we've enjoyed a few very satisfying movie nights over the past several months.
BK: He has the Panasonic projector they were using at the Marriott last fall.
His screen is a 12-foot home-built job that, to my eyes, provides a spectacular picture. Speakers and surround system are excellent, and the seating (comfortable recliners on home-built risers) is wonderful. Best of all (to my taste), it's not something Architectural Digest will be out to do a spread on any time soon. Actually, not ever. Nothing fancy, just the family room of his raised ranch completely blacked out and completely dedicated to film, with shelving for his BLU/DVD/LD collection, and posters, on every available inch of three walls. Just great equipment, a great collection, and total comfort. On my first visit, I was committed to someday having my own projection setup -- something I hadn't been very interested or curious about before. You gotta see it to believe how incredible it can be.
So, today's double feature: the new UK Blu-ray of (HORROR OF) DRACULA, and what is apparently a 3D spectacular, A TURTLE TALE: SAMMY'S ADVENTURES.
