It's been a few years since I saw the film "Words and Music" where Mickey rooney played Hart, but wasn;t the 'insurmountable all-consuming problem" attributed to Hart in that film which haunted the charcater in Mickey Rooney's role -  so much stated in that film''s screenplay as the fact that he was short?  (or was is just the failed romance with the Betty Garrett character?)

I thought it was because he was a drunk.

Yes, but maybe he drank because he was short in the film? or drank because the romance wasn;t working out?

I'm glad I didn't go into the District of Columbia yesterday to see Barbra at the White House Correspondents Dinner.  I found out she didn't walk the Red Carpet so I probably would have missed her.

Well, right now on a stage in Boston, Peter Pan and Captain Hook are giving their last performance!

Well, FJL, here it is, since you asked:

I found most of the movie a mess, but I couldn't stop watching it and I was emotionally engaged in the story. But Frank Capra it ain't.

Plus side: Sally Kellerman and Bobby Van (the two people who had been in musicals before, go figure).

The worst: The homogenized voices and overblown orchestrations that robbed any character of much of Bacharach's music, the dreadful Hermes Pan choreography (redundant, I know), the cheesy sets and costumes that haven't aged well (were those skorts that the male dancers were wearing in their big number? And did Ross Hunter personally oil them down between takes?)

I have a reserve at the library on the Capra version. I'm looking forward to seeing it even more.

Hmm, I asked as I recently read the book. :)

Thanks for the report.  We will have to watch the Capra version.

Bruce I agree with you about Changs.  There is one near my brother's house so we often order food to go for family gatherings there.  They seem to like it more than Keith & I do.

Twin Dragon on Pico near Robertson is much better than Chang's.  Next time it might be worth it for us to pick up the food there, or do what we did last time.  We had lunch there with Keith's brother & took our left overs to my brother's while they all had Chang's.

I had some bacon and eggs for lunch, then came back and finished the liner notes.  Whew!  Only two more sets to go.  They've been sent to the guy who's been helping edit the liners, he'll send back corrected, then the designer can pop them into the booklet - inlay card and front cover are finished.

The weather has turned really warm.  Went out in a t-shirt!

I think all week is supposed to be high 70s. This is especially nice since the weather has stayed much colder here till recently.

Took my bike out for the first time yesterday (which is really late).

Thank you, DR Jane, I'll do that.  Got plenty of things to get done, but they're all for ME.    :)

Wednesday's an all-ME day, too, but that's the only other complete one for the week.

BARNUM casualty count, to date:  one (1) shoulder dislocation.

(An actor on stage, not a piano player!)   :)

That's all, thank the heavens.  Five more performances to get through.
