Good morning. I am off in a bit on an adventure with The Monarch Scientist. We are going to look for milkweed seeds.

I live an exciting life, don't I?

There was a local radio personality, Gerri Hart, who had a daily talk show and was very supportive of (and active in) our community theatre.  Her theme song was "Bluesette," played by studio pianists Charlie Reeder and Bill Eisele.  Here she is with our very own DR Elmore on July 4, 1976:

I hope the heat wave is over soon. Out here we are used to heat and prepared for it. And it is a totally different thing -- that humidity plus heat is miserable.

Wonderful notes, with an unexpected trip down Food Memory Lane.  I will have some things to add to the conversation when out of this La-Z-Boy and off the smart[sic]phone, and typing on a real computer.

Thank you for the picture, DR Ginny.  I propose we all post photographic evidence of our late-60s/early-70s selves.

Today is supposedly the peak of this heat wave.  Mid-90s with a heat index of over 100 expected here, though it absolutely felt like that yesterday already.

I don't do no delivery.  But since you're in Louisville, don't the grocery stores sell pimiento cheese in their refrigerated sections?

That's the problem. I'm in Texas. No Benedictine. No beer cheese. No good pimiento cheese.

Apropos the "Rolling Stone" magazine cover discussed by DRs yesterday:

Quote
The cover, promoting a story about how Tsarnaev fell into radical Islam, flatly calls him a “monster.” But the mayor of Boston and some bombing victims said it was insensitive, and three national drugstore chains (Walgreens, CVS, and Rite-Aid) announced that they would refuse to carry the issue.

Cucumber, onion juice and cream cheese all mashed together into a spread. Nope, not vegan. Just Louisvillian.

Okay, here's a little something re the notes:

Yrs Truly being served a crepe at THE MAGIC PAN, Beverly Hills, snapshot dated July 1974.  My friend worked there, so that's the one I was in most often, as those were also the years when I was both living and working right there.

I'd like to find a menu to recall all my favorite crepes.  I remember a couple of them, but not in detail.  And the spinach salad.

I introduced a lot of people to The Magic Pan, including my folks in Cincinnati.  We were all pretty loyal customers, and it was a dark day when the chain eventually imploded due to way-too-fast expansion.

It's not a beauty contest, DR John G.  The one or two I have in mind, if they even still exist, will be put up for the sole purpose of scaring away the riff-raff.
