DR Ginny-- I waved when we flew over Ohio and got some strange looks from other passengers!

They're no fun!

Back from a three-mile jog, some scrambled eggs and an English muffin (no bacon), and picking up the new Shirley Jones book, which actually arrived late yesterday.  Today's packages haven't even gotten to the mail place yet so I'm ever hopeful that at least a few of the overdue ones will arrive.

There have been a couple of times in the past few years when I've suffered an outage wirh Comcast and gotten impatient and SWORN I was going to call AT&T.  I even asked a couple of neighbors how they liked it and of course they said they'd never looked back.  Well, everyone has different uses and different expectations, and somehow I don't take those as gospel, and I have yet to budge.

I have not really had any trouble with Comcast.  I'm pretty happy with it...so far.

Good morning, all.

Hope the AT&T mess gets straightened out today, BK.

Woke up with a headache and an eye still swollen half shut (all the symptoms of a full-blown sinus infection), but the color is better and I feel rested. So those are for the better.

Just talked to At&T and was assured that their people are in the neighborhood hawking UVerse and that the soft credit check is standard operating procedure and that these sales reps do ask for it.  So, that made me feel a little better.  She also said that if I end up having the guy place the order that I can call and do the credit check from my existing account rather than give the info to him.  We'll see if he actually comes back or calls.

Very good news, BK!

I'm back from the lovely Pequot Library annual book sale in Southport, CT, with just a dozen original cast CDs and a couple of movies.  There wasn't a single book there that I needed to acquire, and this is one of the better of the regional library sales.

When I first discovered these sales some 15 years ago, I'd go crazy at them, carting back half a carload of sh stuff I really didn't need, or which really didn't belong in my "collection".  It took maybe the next 10 years to play that out and finally have the damn epiphany which let me see I had really been hoarding -- not in the TV show sense, but in the massive quantities of unneeded things of surprisingly little value that I'd been accumulating.  Much of that excess is mercifully gone, but there's always more work to be done in whittling things down.  I've pretty well learned how to judge what really needs to come home with me, and am truly the happier for it.

I'm hoping that I've (finally?) realized that, too.  Last week, I rented a storage unit with the idea of getting things out of my house so that I could sort, organize, purge and clean.  I'm nowhere near eligible to be on "Hoarders" (regardless of what my mom says), but I know that I've been heading in that direction...a bit.  So, I'll start to move boxes out of my house and garage.  The last time my mom came over and made me clean, we just put things away but didn't organize at all.  That's what I want to do.  Actually go through everything and keep what I really want to keep (ALL my A/V material, for instance) and get rid of all the "stuff" that's just sitting around and not being used, worn or touched.

Today, the family is going to my parents' house for a barbecue and to meet my parent's foreign exchange teacher.  She's from Japan and supposedly can speak English fairly well.  If I remember correctly, she's over here for a two or three week immersion course so that she can be more proficient in teaching English when she goes back to Japan.

In the meantime, I'm burning a DVD for my dad (Alfred Hitchcock's "Foreign Correspondent" from TCM).  That should be done before 1:00.  I want to finish it so that I can bring it over today.

I did, too. A few of the early scenes were too squirm-inducing for me to watch (I hate that kind of humor), but the rest was really good.

My niece made cookies yesterday and will bring them to my parents' house, where I'm going right now!

Be back later!

Speaking of laughing and crying, this time it's my turn:  I have to go to a locally written and produced semi-musical play tonight that I can't imagine is going to delight me.  No choice in the matter, have to support good friends.  Time to dig out a flask?    :)

I'm watching the  German tv versions of two Menotti operas The Old Maid And The Thief and The Medium from the mid-1960s.  The comedy is a little too heavy and not sly enough for The Old Maid but the thriller is quite well done.

I think tonight, after the 8:00 Britcoms, I will watch Judi Dench in something called Ladies in Lavender.  I have no idea what it is.

Good afternoon. I spent the day at a funeral. After the luncheon, I corralled two young people and guided them though the washing of the dishes. We were mostly successful at keeping the sweet tiny elderly ladies from working too hard. Kerry will know what I mean. Marilyn will be 95 this fall, and it is very difficult to keep her from working too hard.

I've never heard of a foreign exchange teacher.  I like that.  How did they find each other?
