A friend from college and her husband were out walking through their neighborhood (in North Carolina) yesterday at dusk.  This is one of the seasonal sights that greeted them:

From DR Laura:
Quote
Jane, it is not a pocket camera. It is rather large. I can't take a picture of it because, well, I would be using it to take the picture.

;D  I thought you might have a second, smaller and older camera.  All the really good cameras are larger than I want to carry-darn.

I'm glad you saw some pretty fall colors yesterday.

DR singdaw doesn't know "my" reaction to meeting him.  I was approaching the location where he said he would meet me.  And I was looking for someone who might be waiting for someone.  What I saw was this tall giant of a guy speaking to other folks as they walked by.   I believe I may have heard him ask "Ron?" of one of them, I'm not sure.  I was amused by the time we actually acknowledged one another.

Yes, DR Elmore, it's one of my fondest memories.  At the end of the cast meeting, you said, "Now I want Ginny to come up here and stand next to me."  I thought, "Oh, man, am I in trouble or what?"  Snooky came out with the cake with candles and everybody sang "Happy Birthday" and you presented me with this Snoopy autograph hound signed by cast & crew:

Awww, and you still have Snoopy :)

Oops, wait a minute!  DR Elmore's birthday surprise was my 25th birthday, so it only took a little over 2 years for me to make friends in my new town.

Guess I had my own "oldtimers" moment!

From my experience moving so often, two years is about right.

I can't remember if I ever shared with DR Ron Pulliam - or with the rest of HHW - my story of meeting him in person for the first time. We had agreed on a place and time to meet, but of course I didn't know what he looked like. So there I was, on the streets of downtown San Francisco, looking at complete strangers as they walked by, saying, "Ron?  RON??"

Some of them ignored me. Some gave me a wide berth on the sidewalk. And a few men smiled back and looked like they were going to stop and talk. It was a very outré experience.

But we finally did connect, and had a most delightful afternoon together!       :)

This story from both sides is fun.

Merrily is, for me, a show with a good score.  I've seen several productions, and despite the talent involved the show, for me, never works.  I think Sondheim lovers want it to work so bad that every time there's a new go at it they say "THIS is the one that works!"  Until the next one, then they say, THIS is the one that works!  But, as many have pointed out, the majority of the show is extremely negative, never more so than act one, which is, of course, the end rather than the beginning.

They ordered pizza for lunch and two pizzas were delivered while I was biking; the delicious odor was driving me mad for a slice.

I'm surprised they didn't dangle them in front of your bike using a stick and a piece of string!

As I was watching the end of the show ("Opening Doors" and "Our Time"), I was thinking that these are wonderful songs and a beautiful moment, but why do they have to turn out to be such jerks. :-\

Maybe if the end of the story (the beginning of the show) started with a reunion and reconciliation and the show was a flashback to show why it all happened, it wouldn't end up being so negative for the audience because they would know that ultimately there's a happy ending.

Just a thought.

By the way, DR Ron Pulliam -

You should live on the wild side once in a while.

Have a lemon cake with strawberry icing, or a strawberry cake with lemon icing.        :)

And then wash it all down with a glass of strawberry lemonade. ;)
