Welcome to NYC, Ginny!

Is the Wednesday uptown HHW dinner still on?

Absolutely, DR FJL - will you be joining us?

Oh sorry, yes - it's been on my calendar for such a long time, and I've been timing other things around it  -

(I now see I just wrote it in and forgot to RSVP!)

DR Elmore, splurge for a taxi and enjoy the party!

Taxis are a luxury that I can barely afford at the moment.  The bus is fine; the problem is the walk up the steps at 65th Street to Lincoln Center Plaza and the looooong walk past the pool to the Beaumont. Then more steps from the door to the lobby. And it will be a lot of standing since I recall no chairs in the Beaumont lobby.

DR ChasSmith, thanks for the kind words about the G&D. I don't like the sound of the saxes in "A Woman In Love." If I'd been at the London sessions, i might have rslved them to my satisfaction, but that's the curse of sending work out, not getting to hear a rough mix to comment on it, and being stuck with the final product. The fact that I never got to hear a rough mix is one of the several reasons I stopped working for John Yap.

Could you take the taxi to the Beaumont directly on 65th a few doors in from Amsterdam?

(Are there steps at that end?)

My mom swore by access-a-ride back when she spent time in NYC.  Maybe that's available to you for the future, and now's the time to get it?  Many young people used it too, IIRC, not just over-50.

He sure is!

Looks like I'm only a few away from a minor but respectable one.

I, too, have had problems accessing the site this morning.

Happy Monday vibes.

Nick Adams would explain most of why the scene is not so hot.  Is it just that scene or others?

I think Mr Adams was only used in GIANT for the referenced scenes.

At My Dollar Tree Store today, they had the EASY TO SEE keyboards.....with BIG LETTERS and YELLOW KEYS.....and although it is ugly, I bought one for me and one for the living room, and I have to say that it is much easier to see.....  And you can't beat it for $1

In one of the many secondary features on the Giant DVD I watched recently, someone said James Dean was not pleased with that scene, either. Dubbed or not, I found it sloppy compared with how good he was early on in the picture.

There were also a few good stories on the scene where he's offered money for the property Luz left him. He didn't want to do the scene because he had nothing to do, or so he thought. Then someone taught him the rope trick and with that, he turned a scene with little dialogue on his part into one in which all eyes are on him throughout.

Not a perfect movie, but a riveting one.

And I would love to see the musical staged. Of course, it has different scenes from the book in it. So, we know, for example, that Uncle Bawley, the character Chill Wills played, is likely gay, which would never have been addressed back when the movie was made.

Another late photo from my friend, Rick.

Here's a link to his obituary, which, despite having three authors work on it, is rather disjointed and somewhat sloppy.

Are there any Christmas musicals -- Elf, White Christmas, the Grinch or Christmas Story -- playing New York this year?

Christmas Story is in rehearsal as I type this. John Bolton and Carline O'Connor are back. I can't remember if Erin Dilly played the mother last year or not, but i think she did.

Thanks for the photo DR JOHNG.  Sympathies for you and the family and friends of Rick.

If you have never read the novel GIANT, I would recommend it highly.  It is one of my favorites.  And it's great to have the movie characters' faces  in mind when you read it.

Cool. That has a really fun score.

Nick Adams would explain most of why the scene is not so hot.  Is it just that scene or others?

From what I recall, it was just the final scene.

BTW: I understand that Alan Ladd was the original choice for Dean's role.

GIANT should have won the Best Picture Oscar that year.

Aside from the scenery and and "spot the star" aspect, AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS is a bore.

Garage Man has come and gone - one of the sensors had come loose a bit and tilted down, which was causing the spazzing out - he adjusted it, tightened it, and all seems well now.
