I had planned on a making a bourbon pecan pie for Thanksgiving dinner, but the hostess suggested that a cherry cobbler would be even more welcome. Maybe I'll make both.

I'm supposed to make apple crisp and apple sauce, which I will, but after my brother said he doesn't have time to make his pecan pie, I'm thinking about doing one of those too.   My brother uses Paula Dean's recipe.  I've never done a pecan pie before, but it can't be THAT hard. Hmmmm

I needed to go to Trader Joe's today and arranged my day to go early this morning. I went to one of the larger ones, where parking isn't so congested, only to find about half of the parking lot unavailable due to some tree trimming. Bad timing on someone's part! I lucked out and found a parking space, but I can only imagine the chaos a couple hours later.

I was just telling someone today about how I've been a Trader Joe's shopper for -- count'em -- 30 years now.  Started in Redondo Beach in 1983.  Mostly we were reminiscing about how much more adventurous it used to be, going there.  It's still a great store, but now they're all the same, and the corporate stamps pervades them all.  So, just curious, which one(s) do you go to?  I had a few favorite ones around different parts of town.

Would you believe that our microwave blew today?

Two days before Thanksgiving.

Thank God for Ovens ;)    Microwaves have gotten pretty inexpensive and are probably on sale, so it may be OK

The news just said "Stop eating when you are 80% full" So how do you know it's 80%?

I will be gone for one night over the holiday.  I talked to the vet and she thinks Callie will be fine without her meds for that long.  I tend to agree.  The way I have it planned, she'll only miss two doses.  Paul is going to stop by and check on the cats.  Not sure he really needs to, but they are so used to me being home every night that it can't hurt.

It's really cold here.  Right now the wind chill is 7 degrees, but there's no rain, sleet or snow.  But it will warm up to 32 for Thanksgiving and 40 over the weekend.  Not bad

That hurts.

We went to Sears today and bought a new one...but it won't be delivered/installed until the end of next week.

I just got back from The Outback.  I had their aged cheddar and bacon burger.  Other than the bacon not being crispy (I love and prefer my bacon to be crispy), it was delish and VERY filling!

Went to Gelson's and got some slaw and a tiny bit of tomatoes and mozzarella from the salad bar - hit the spot.

Yes, you're right about the uniformity.

My first TJ's was, I think, a small one in a little shopping center near what is now Sony Pictures, not far from what was once the Culver Theatre. In those days they just had all sorts of oddball items and didn't try to cover all the bases grocerywise.

There was a large TJ's in San Diego, again with odd assortments of gourmet items. There was hardly ever anyone in the store!

These days I shop at the one on Pico and 33rd (Santa Monica) and (today) the one on Sepulveda and Palms Blvd. (WLA) There are two more near me, but are less convenient due to traffic patterns.

TJ's has done an exceptional job, I think, of staying abreast of trends and customer preferences. Virtually everyone I know shops at Trader Joe's at least some of the time.

I'm just waiting for my direct deposit to kick in.  Since Wednesday is the last working day of the month for the library (where I work), that's when we get paid.
