The tall guy on the right (stage left) is the one who constantly switches his microphone.

The day with the family at my sister's was quite nice.  We just ate and chatted and played Scrabble.  I came in fourth...out of four. ;) We listened to holiday music on the Comcast digital music channel and now I'm home watching TV.

I just watched the "Farewell to Matt Smith" special on BBC America (I had to record it because I wasn't home) and now will watch the actual last episode with Matt Smith, the Christmas special, "The Time of the Doctor."  Peter Capaldi will then take over the role.

Ask BK:   In the picture with you, Terri White, and the other two women, what is the blue thing you're holding in your hand?

The blue thing is a gift.

I decided to spend an hour doing a little research for the setting of the new novel.  It was really fun.

Good evening all.  I guess I'm technically too late to say Merry Christmas in my time zone, but I'll say it anyway, Merry Christmas!

Got up this morning and exchanged gifts with mom and dad.  My brother, Sister in Law and I got dad a monitor for his new computer, so I set that up for him Christmas Eve and this morning showed him how to use his new computer.  He's very excited about the new monitor and I'm glad we got it for him

We were all going to have dinner at Sam and Don's at 1:00 which I could do and still get on the road by 2:00 which was the latest I wanted to be on the road.  They got delayed - kids and Christmas - so I didn't stay to eat.  It wasn't a problem as I had already told them that they shouldn't plan on me. but if it worked out I'd be there

There was a lot of blowing snow across the road for the first leg of my trip home.  I went about 45 miles per hour but didn't have problems.  After I got about 1/2 way home there was no snow at all and it was a pleasant trip the rest of the way.   I was exhausted when I got home about 4:00pm

Since we mostly ate junk food while I was home....well holiday food, but appetizers, sweets etc.  I put in a Jenny O turkey roast the minute I got home.   Then I made some potatoes and had a mini Christmas dinner for myself.  It was just what I needed.

And since I don't do laundry when it's below zero out, and since it was finally above freezing today, I did a huge pile of laundry.  Not exactly a Christmas thing to do, but man I'm glad that's done.

DR Elmore, sorry about your friend.   I have a friend who was my best friend since 1979 or so.  She is a very active democrat and hasn't talked to me since the last presidential election.   I was there for her when her dad died, when here husband died...I was even a part of his service.  She came to my office opening, I've spent Christmases with her for years, we've traveled together etc.  But I switch political parties and our friendship is apparently over.   It was very hard for me last year.  This year it was easier, partially because they had our family get together the day before I went up there and I didn't see her and partially because she didn't send any greeting cards on my birthday or other times - which she has always done. So I knew she wasn't making any attempt to be my friend anymore

Hugs to you my friend.  It's a hard thing to go through

I do not understand any friend who would let politics come between the friendship.  That is just the height of something or other.

CNN has had some very interesting historical shows about Jesus and Mary tonight.  I've found them quite interesting

I learned early on about friendship, which I wrote about in Kritzerland.  After that experience, I've always been wary.  I have many close and wonderful friends who I believe are dear and true, but I'm still wary and still expect all of them to turn and walk away - and that's all thanks to my best friend when I was a child who turned and walked away.

Paul is leaving at about 3:00 AM to drive to Palm Springs.  His sister and her family have rented a house for a few months and he's driving out a car for them (I think most of them are flying).   I'm glad he's getting away and glad I have the next 4 days without calls to go do things.   Don't get me wrong I truly enjoy my friendship with Paul, but I need to get my work done on my house and I want to go to movies he isn't interested in.  It will be 4 days just for me.   Now that's my best Christmas present :)

I have quite a few friends that I get together with for parties, movie night etc through out the year, but Paul is really the only friend I just call and say "meet me for coffee" or whatever.  Or just call to talk.  Our friendship has had it's ups and downs, but we're past all that.  We've learned when to tell each other we don't want to discuss some issue or another and we just don't and move on to other things.  He's my best friend.  I don't know that I'm his best friend - he has several life long friends here in town, but I'm one of them.

It's very late.  I must get some sleep.  Tomorrow I start scrubbing walls and finishing the upstairs den.   I'm really looking forward to doing the work and getting it done.   Depending how early I get started scrubbing the walls, I'll either paint the walls tomorrow or Friday.  Then when they are dry I'll install the shades.   I still have some work to do on the wood floor, but that can be done whenever. I've been waiting a year and a half for my shoulders to be up to this again and I think I'm finally there....we shall see.

I've finished the Doctor Who Christmas special, "The Time of the Doctor."  I think that I hadn't been paying enough attention because I didn't quite get it.  I'll definitely have to watch it again.
