I think I made the point in the notes that some people are gluten free out of necessity - I'm quite sure I made that point in the notes.  I'm equally sure that there are many people, including some I know right here in LA, that have gone gluten free for no other reason than it is a current fad.  And I can equally guarantee that they will not be gluten free a year from now.

It did rain a little bit on and off during the evening, but the dire predictions, as always, did not happen.

Here is the dire report.  Now, I suppose that the second storm, due tomorrow, could happen, but if it's like the first storm, it will be like watering the lawn.

"There's going to be so much rain in just a couple of days that a lot of areas might not be able to handle that much rain," said NBC4 meteorologist Crystal Egger. "It just runs downhill like a concrete driveway."

Two storms will usher moisture into the region, moving down from Northern California Wednesday morning before bringing about a half-inch to an inch of rain to Southern California.

The heaviest rain Wednesday is expected after the evening commute and into the overnight hours. The more powerful of the two storms will arrive Thursday evening and bring up to 2 inches of rain in central and southern valleys, 2 to 4 inches in foothill areas and 6 inches of rain in some mountains.

The National Weather Service described it as the most significant storm in the last three years in Southern California, adding that thunderstorms are possible Friday and Saturday. Showers could continue into early Sunday.

Download: NBCLA Weather App
The city of Glendora issued an Orange Level alert for residents in the burn area, meaning voluntary evacuations are in effect. Residents are directed to remove vehicles, trash bins and other obstructions from streets prior to evacuating.

The city's evacuation center is at the Crowther Teen & Family Center located at 241 W. Dawson Ave.
Residents who do not evacuate will be asked to sign a Refusal to Evacuate form, indicated they understand the risk involved.

"The alert level was raised to orange from yellow due to the Weather Forecasts and the field conditions within the foothills of Glendora," according to a city advisory.

The city could issue a Red Level alert, which includes mandatory evacuations."

All told, there was probably about two hours of what you'd call actual rain.  So little, in fact, that there is no wetness on the street outside whatsoever.

We had torrential rainfall overnight.  It was so hard and loud at one point that it woke me out of a deep sleep.

The next phase will happen later tonight and tomorrow morning.  The worst of it is aimed at Southern California, according to local meteorologists who, as it turns out, also say we'll get a fair amount of rain out of it, as well.

My small point was, we were all told that last night (yesterday, really, before they just changed it and never acknowledged the yesterday part) there was going to be substantial rain here - there wasn't.  And right now, the sun is out.  Maybe tomorrow will prove to be correct.  I knew it was raining heavily where you were.

Exactly.  I work with a woman who has Celiac disease and for people like her who need it, it's definitely a good thing.  A couple of years ago, I'd read (skimmed) an article that said that people who go gluten free just to lose weight, won't.  That's not what it's for.  And people are needlessly spending a lot of extra money because it's the latest "trend."

And speaking of Indian films, I have finally another interview up on-line. It is with actor Deep Joshi. He has done some excellent work in the past, and appears to be continuing to do so. His next couple of films look to be quite good!

If you are interested in his story, just click here: http://pedrotheapebomb.wordpress.com/2014/02/26/interview-with-deep-joshi/

That's great, Michael!

Finally found our musical director - an old acquaintance, Wayne Moore.  He will just be getting back from a tour of some I Love Lucy show, the very day we begin, so the timing was kind of perfect.

I have been a nervous wreck all morning waiting for my sister to call. My niece was doing a retelling of a story for a competition at her school (in front of the whole school and the parents of the kids doing it).  I just found out that it well very well.  They are just waiting for the results.

I am sorry you couldn't be there.

For the record, BK:

I have been gluten free for a couple of years, and since I have been, I feel much better than before.

I second those remarks and will add: against my wishes, my gastroenterologist confirmed my celiac sprue disease back in 2002, so I have had to be gluten-free since then, otherwise I will be one with the water closet all day.  If only Marlo Thomas would reprise her children's show and only this time call it "Free To Be Gluten-Free".  The pizzarias in NYC taunted me continually when I first learned to live without dear old gluten.  However, I have recently learned from a physician out here in the desert that wheat gluten does in fact cause changes in the collagen causing the skin to prematurely age.  So, there's that to think about.

We stopped at Best Buy because they finally got in one of these OLED TVs, this one made by LG, a company I know nothing about.

DA Bruce, I highly recommend LG products.  They often claim "LG" stands for "Life's Good" but in actuality it stands for "Lucky Goldstar" a South Korean company that was formerly just Goldstar.  I believe they have made the electronic "guts" for many other well-known and higher-priced brands aside from releasing products under their own logo.  I had LG DVD and CD players and TVs and washers and dryers, and all were very good, durable items.  Yes, LG doesn't have the cache of some other brands, but remember that the innards of those other brands may have been made by LG.
