What a weird day! Most of my plans have gone awry!  Never did get to the post office.

Just like that old saying, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.  SO, when things go awry, get aham and make asandwich!

Dear HHW Family

I can use your prayers. My father is very ill and I'm flying back to Montreal this morning. I am hoping I can make it back in time.

Thank you all

Prayers for your father, Mike, and prayers that you can travel safely and arrive in time.

Topic of the Day:

I just finished listening to Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure, by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (they wrote Honk!, which I love).  I really like their writing style.  It's not as quaint or innocent as the Mary Martin version, musically.

Now, I'm listening to London Road, which I'd never heard of.  I'd only seen it on Dresscircle.co.uk, and it was on sale at the time I bought it, so I decided to take a chance.  Hmm...it's very...interesting, so far.  I think that this will require several listenings to really determine likability. ::)

It rained heavily during the night here in my 'hood. I had a doctor's appointment this morning, which I didn't want to miss . I lucked out: just as I was about to leave the rain eased up from a heavy downpour to a normal rain. I scooted over to Santa Monica with no problems. The rain then eased some more and stayed light until I returned home. Thank you, Heavens!

It's now raining heavily again.

My doctor is very, very pleased at how well the shingles rash has healed. She had instructed me to put vitamin E on it daily. The liquid vitamin E was a bit awkward, so I used a vitamin E cream instead. It's by Derma-e. I've used many of their products and am usually quite happy with them. This was very hydrating, not greasy, absorbed easily, and has virtually no scent. And not expensive. I'm now using it as a hand lotion and like it very much. Highly recommended.

These little let-ups let the rain soak in, too, so we have less flooding.

Last night, I supped as an invited guest at the Women's Club of Minneapolis. And no, I didn't go in drag - they do allow men in, and even as members.
The setting was lovely, as was the meal and the service. It is located adjacent to St. Mark's Cathedral, Loring Park, and the Walker Art Center.

Does this mean you're feeling better and no longer look like a chipmunk?   ;)

The city of St. Paul has just announced that effective immediately, and until the snow has melted (sometime in May?), no parking will be allowed on the even-numbered sides of residential streets. This is a joke, because there is not enough street parking as it is. By eliminating half of the available parking - well, I just don't see how in tarnation that is going to work.     :-\    If you don't have a garage or off-street parking, you're screwed.

I can understand your frustration. Has the city done this before? What did others without off-street parking do then?

Peter Pan must be in the air today (no groaning) because I just received the 1924 silent version on Kino DVD which had been in my "save for later" cart since just about forever.  I'm enjoying silent movies more and more, and this looks to be pretty good.  Will watch it soon.

As usual in LA, have to find a new Daisy Mae.  The one I'd cast, who committed and then said she "misunderstood" she was REALLY committing, had her agent e-mail me - I gave them all the details and he apologized and said she couldn't commit this far in advance for Waiver theater - six weeks in advance.  He has all kinds of things she might, could possibly, maybe could get.  They asked if I could wait till the end of March, at which point, if nothing else in the world is happening for her, then she'll commit.  For me, not even worth a response and I'm on the lookout for someone who understands how much fun this will be.  So, she'll end up in a hundred dollar reading somewhere (she'd make more with us - there's a stipend for the pros that LACC has built into the budget and it's not horrible), or maybe, possibly, she'll end up doing a show for one of the usual theaters or maybe she'll just be sitting around in April should nothing work out.

Don't know if I said this before, but I used to LOVE rainy days in L.A.  Even just cloudy days were great because of the whole different look and feel they'd lend to the city.  I don't mean just a blah type of smoggy overcast, but actual cumulus clouds against a clear blue sky.  And that's pretty rare, of course.  I guess you'd only get it during the "winter" months.  But I really loved true rainy days, whether living in and walking around Hollywood, spending a day at home enjoying the feel of it, or driving around in it.  Oddly, something I loved doing in the rain was exploring parts of town less familiar to me, finding interesting jernts to stop in for a bite to eat, etc.

Progress report:  Subwoofer moved, and working.  Blu-ray player and Comcast cable box moved, and working.  Life is beautiful, and everything is working.  Even the orchestra is working.

More tomorrow.  In the meantime, I've decided to blow off attending the opening night of a local BAREFOOT IN THE PARK.  Just not up to schlepping around and going.  I know it's going to be good, and I'll catch another performance.

Rainy days in Hollywood made me think of the bookstore scene in THE BIG SLEEP.
