And what about Christian Bale losing all that weight for "The Machinist"? He was completely emaciated. According to the IMDb trivia section for "The Machinist":

bk, sorry to hear about Marshall Harvey's wife. My assistant editor on two films, Jim Schulte, went on to be Marshall's assistant on a number of films. I visited their editing rooms out in LA several times, and Jim seemed to enjoy working with Marshall very much. Sincere condolensces to Marshall and his family.
