I loved those others, too, DR John G.  Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, Dick Cavett ... and later, I came to appreciate Tom Snyder.  Yes, al different -- different times of day, different formats, etc.  Together, they defined an age and a view onto the culture that we won't see again.

Tom Snyder, yes, but Rona Barrett never!

Most of the hosts mentioned seemed to care more about their guests than themselves....not so much today.....

I also - to a point - enjoyed Mr Steve Allen....his Man on the Street segments with Louis Nye and Don Knotts always made me laugh.  I also liked his Soap Operas which cut to people in the audience as he told the story of a small town scandal....

DR elmore thank you for finding, and sharing, the photo.  The stone wall made a nice backdrop.

From DR John:
Quote
Thanks for all the kind words on the story about Mom. The reporter made one little error that would matter to no one but her old children, ages 58, 55 and 51: My folks have been married for almost 59 years, not 51, as the reporter said. (As if legitimacy still mattered these days.

;D

I don't blame you for wanting to correct the information.

Excellent suggestion for another outing.  I would like to wear it again.

From DR Ginny:
Quote
I don't know what possessed me to look at today's hometown obituaries, but that's when I learned of Alan's death.  Even thought I dreaded telling DR Elmore, I'm glad he didn't receive the news alone and via email.  I knew Alan as a student on the campus where my library career began, but had lost touch with him except through Larry.

Yes, much kinder coming from a friend who also knew him.

My health is good.  My doctor is sending me to a colleague who specializes in sport and back injuries.

I am having a spot of lunch before heading to Carnegie Hall.

We have been informed that the name of the book has been changed from Barbecue Lovers' Guide to Texas to the simpler Barbecue Lovers' Texas. I like it.

I just wish we had been told before we were handed copy for the cover and asked to edit it.

I like the new name and think it is much better than the original one.

TOD:

I liked Johnny Carson, although I only watched on the rare occasion when he had a guest that was of interest.

Have not watched any of the other current talk show hosts enough to have much of an opinion, although I have seen each of them on other shows. Conan O'Brian always seemed creepy to me. David Letterman, I just never cared for.

If I had to pick a favorite talk show host it would be Ellen DeGeneres. I have seen her show only a few times, but it was always fun.

Thursday afternoon greetings!  We've taken a walk over to 9th Ave. to do a little shopping and to pick up a little lunch.  It's a gorgeous day in Manhattan and I'm looking forward to our walk up to 57th Street later.
