Yesterday I was at Marie Callendar's when another customer came up to me, told me it was National Poetry Day, and gave me a copy of a little poem by Emily Dickinson. A sweet gesture.

It's been a strange week and not helped by my erratic sleeping patterns--if you can call it a pattern at all. At times I am desperate for sleep. I go to bed early, but don't fall asleep until 1:30 am. Other nights I fall asleep right away, but wake up at 5 am, knowing full well I won't be able to go back to sleep. If it wasn't for my favorite little Rescue Sleep product I question whether I'd sleep at all. The problem is partly noise and partly me. Sigh.

I should, of course, mention that I'm doing laundry. Obligatory HHW mention.

There could be all sorts of interesting things going on in my life, but I'm so muddle-headed at the moment that I couldn't think of them.

Speaking of pie, I had a piece of their strawberry pie a couple weeks ago. It was the first strawberry pie I'd eaten in maybe twenty years. I'm sorry to say it was a disappointment. The strawberries were HUGE--maybe that was part of the problem--but tasteless. All I could taste was the sweet syrup that covered them.

So where'd Chas go? Maybe he went to the store for some pie. Costco, perhaps.

DR George, I agree with you that you didn't actually have to change your Rx for a quarter diopter. I did so once, against my optician's advice, but I was reading lots of very fine print at the time and it did help. Much easier than using a magnifying glass and much better than straining my eyes. For me, at that time, it was the right decision. As you said, you'll now have a good spare, too.

Hello, everyone.

Dan M, how are you doing?

Thank you for asking DR Jeanne.  I'm feeling pretty good and energetic today.  While I've not yet gotten any official news from my oncologist, I did log in to the website that has my blood work results from this past Wednesday.  From my layman's understanding, it seems as though my blood work is making some kind of comeback, very slowly.  Still can't be around a lot of kids due to their propensity to be petrie dishes in Keds.

Glad to hear it! Yes, kids are little cesspools of disease and you need to avoid them. I hope you're able to surround yourself with positive people and lots of things that you enjoy. HHW is, of course, an excellent environment. :-)

I've decided to low-carb it for a while, so no pie for Chas, I'm afraid.

Going to a local production of "Catch Me If You Can" tonight. Stated listening to the cast recording the other day. Kinda heartless and kinda soulless pastiche score of 1960s variety shows. Lots of pizazz, not a whole lot going on .Certainly nothing on par with the score from Hairspray, which is the same writers. I do like Tom Wopat, one of MBarnum's favorites, on the recording. He seems right at home with the style of music. He wears it well.

And I also mentioned that I don't love my current frames.  Even though I had to pay for new ones, they'll be a little bit smaller, so that when (not if) I need to look over or under them to read something up close (like this: 8) because I only need them for distance)...it'll be easier.

DR Jrand63, of course not.  Being so close to the Speedway, I'm sure she may be due to have her plastic surgery rotated or vulcanized after 50,000 miles.   :D

Well, I'm off.  I'm ushering for the showing of a documentary on Tin Pan Alley and early Broadway stuff.  It should be quite interesting.

Be back later!

Today I went for my 3rd bike ride this Spring. The weather has been nice (around 50s).

I even tried the path at the lake to see what it would be like. There are some puddles. And only maybe 10 people walking. It's too early to go there by bike. But it was very windy and there is much less wind there.
