Li'l Abner DVD's out of print, and unfortunately pricey from Amazon sellers.

But watching the movie would certainly be the way to start.  After that, the original cast album is a must.

Don't get that first one DR VIXMOM.

I am envious of the joy of first discovery for you.....speaking of which...DR CHAS SMITH I think you would like TWO FOR THE ROAD.....particularly if you are a fan of either of the stars.....

JOHn G  thank you for your answer last night   I will have to buy two books,  one for me and one for Fred
I love your way of thinking.

And I, too, have never seen Li'l Abner. Neither the stage musical nor the movie. But I do know the score from the cast album.

We've set a date for our first alum association event in three years, I think - An Evening With Richard Sherman - I will be hosting and asking him questions, there will be music - he will play and sing, we'll sing our new song, and Sami will do the nonsense words medley I put together and I may have one or two other singers there.  The date is Friday May 30 at 7pm and it's open to the public.

Once I get all my boxes unpacked, I will scan some photos from a production of Abner that I was in (1980).

I'M SHOCKED, SHOCKED!   What happened to the tap tap tapioca?  That's one of the few desserts I can still enjoy.

Isn't "once I get all my boxes unpacked" a perfect lead into an expository song?

Billie Hayes played Mammy Yokum in the movie musical.  Most people remember her as Witchiepoo from HR PUFNSTUF.

That would be great!  I saw an interview with Billie Hayes a few years ago.  She seems like a very nice person and a talented performer.
