Last night's opening night for "Chamber Music" went really well. We had about a dozen people and they really liked the show. They laughed appropriately and they were also shocked appropriately at what happens (no spoiler from me!). We had a little party after the show to celebrate the opening of the show, and to celebrate our first show in our new home. We had fun, chatted, ate, visited and a good time was had by all. We think that the show will be successful. It won't the the hit that "Reservoir Dogs" was for us last year, but I'm sure that it'll end up being a good show for us.

Today will be a very long day for me. For Christmas, I bought my sister tickets to see a new musical version of A Room With a View. The movie is one of my sister's favorite movies. She, her boyfriend, my mom and I are all going to see today's matinee. I got the tickets with a discount, so they were practically half priced.

Louis Hobson (who was in Next To Normal) and Patti Cohenour (The Light in the Piazza) are in the cast. Louis Hobson was also in a production of A Rock & Roll Twelfth Night that Harlequin Productions here in Olympia wrote (they're actually bringing it back next season!).

Another cast member, Jenny Shotwell, is from Olympia. We were in Annie together back in 1993 or 1994 when I played seven different roles and she played Annie! She was a very good performer at that young age and still is! Last year, when my friends Rick and Scott got married, people could sing after the ceremony and she sang a couple of songs. She had a wonderful voice. I can't wait to see her in a grown up show!

My sister wants to go out to eat after the show and then go to IKEA, so we'll do that. I told the stage manager and the director that I more than likely won't be there for the 8:00 pm show, but I should be back in town for our one and only 10:00 pm show. Since this is my one and only conflict and there aren't even a dozen cues for lights and sound combined, they had no problem with me being off. I'll certainly be at every other performance.

This morning is the Fiesta Pooch Parade with people dressing their dogs up and then forcing them to walk 1.25 miles in the heat.

This evening, a pair of friends from the dance studio I go to are getting married. It'll be my first time back to the studio in about nine months. I pity my partners' feet.

Johnny Mercer on stage. Too many songs on Saratoga sound truncated, would love some of the songs from The Good Companions, plus Foxy, St. Louis Woman, etc.

Hugh Martin: Make a Wish has some great stuff. Love High Spirits, Best Foot Forward, even Love from Judy. Of course, he wrote great stuff for the movies, too. (Doubt anyone would know it.)

Flaherty and Ahrens has built a strong body of work.

There is a series out there that looks at Broadway year by year, but that doesn't work for me as well as a look at various seasons would.
