I'm getting really irritated with the weather.  First they predict storms and act like we're going to blow off the face of the earth. It turns in to a trace of rain and that's it.  I wish this stupid drought would end

I'm guessing our drought is over but I don't know what the official report is.

Jane, I both read THE BOOK THIEF and saw the movie. I loved both. I was very, very pleased with the film. A couple things were left out, but it worked well and was very true to the book. I wouldn't say that Keith needs to read the book first.

Thank you.  I asked on Facebook and two other people made similar comments.  I will leave it up to him.

I watched the movie today.  I liked it, but may have liked it more if I hadn't read the book first.  Not sure.  I usually like to see the movie first so I'm surprised and then read the book to get the whole story

Thanks.  Did I prompt you to watch it today? :)

I've been meaning to, and this week is Tolerance week here so there are events all week about the Holocaust, so it was a good time to watch.  And I was feeling like sitting in my chair and watching a movie.  You did prompt me to choose that movie.

Not here.  The storms go on all sides of us and we don't get bumpkus.  No snow all winter and now no rain. It's been years since normal rainfall

As I posted a few weeks ago, I re-purchased the Kindle Red Gold when it re-appeared in the Amazon store. The new version I downloaded had the same problems as the first version - unreadable.

I think someone mentioned that it's because those who ordered it originally (like me) keep getting the first version.

Back from a wonderful afternoon with friends. The temperature was in the low 90s and they wanted to smoke cigars with a port that one couple had been saving for 20 years.

In their backyard, we saw a road runner that had just caught a lizard. The bird was gorgeous.

Yesterday DR DRUXY mentioned SAMMY FAIN & PAUL FRANCIS WEBSTER

Here are two rare (obscure) songs they wrote for films that most people no long remember.

1) This song from the movie The Stepmother is sung in two different styles in the opening and closing of the film. The movie now shows up in collections of other public domain movies like "Drive-In Favorites"

The song is called "Strange Are The Ways Of Love". This is the end title version.

A side note is there was another song with the exact same title that was nominated in 1959 for the film The Young Land.

http://youtu.be/79L310U7wIk

2) The most obscure film is "Half A House" and the song is "A World That Never Was". I've been looking for a copy of the film for the past three years with no success.

DR DRUXY tells the story in his first memoir how he got the Academy voters to hear the song They set up an 800-number so that Academy voters could call in and hear Fain's demo recording of the song.

http://youtu.be/MkLq_W22-do  It starts at 1:34

This is taken from the film.

I thank DR Druxy for allowing me to hear the "1-800 version"  :D

That is a terrible rendition of the song.  It needs to be sung by an older person.

Sammy Fain's demo recording nails it.

My memory (once again) fails me, Mike.  How did I "allow" you to hear Fain's verison of the song?

You sent me a copy of the Sammy Fain version which I also like better. It has verse and some alternate lyrics that are not heard in the film version which was sung by Suzy Braveau.

I cherish it as part of my Oscar song collection.

Maybe all copies are buried in the desert with the ATARI E.T. game.

I watched half of Season 1 of Mr Selfridge today.

I will try to watch the rest before Tuesday because I have to return them to the Library.

Do any DR"S watch this show on PBS?

It is really good and I thin Jeremy Piven is perfect in the role.

Better than an obese Jeremy Piven. :-)

I am glad you watched it.  We ended up renting TWO GUNS with Denzel Washington & Mark Wahlberg.  Maybe next time we will get Book Thief.  I recently (only 3 books ago) read THE PARIS ARCHITECT which takes place in occupied Paris.

Did I mention yesterday that I filmed a role in a pilot for a new web series called "Making Lemonade"?

I played the role of Michael.

First film acting gig in almost 19 years.

It is a trilogy and i am reading the third book now. The second book was not as emotional. Not sure about the third yet. I do like books that make you feel and provoke a strong reaction. But this author is crazy. She likes to write characters that are very flawed.

They were pulling carts with milk cans on them.  they looked happy to be working and all had their owner or trainer with them so they weren't just set off with someone who doesn't know what they are doing

it has been a busy day .  I went to see my elderly parishioner at her  nursing home  we had a nice a visit  just as I was preparing to leave her daughters showed up  ( they both live in Massachusetts so I was not expecting to see them)  they have arranged to have their Mom moved to assisted living locally to their  homes .

I am sorry to see her go  but happy she will be nearer her children.  She agrees she is no longer able to live and seems quite amenable to the move.
