TOD:
SCTV: So many highlights-- "Indira" (a la Evita) (played by Andrea Martin) co-starring Slim Whitman; Rick Moranis imitating Merv Griffin doing his show as a "special edition" directed by Steven Spielberg and co-hosted by HAL9000; "The Godfather" parody in which John Marley plays a Leonard Bernstein-type conductor who has a talking horse and who is "punished" by Guy Caballero (Joe Flaherty) for refusing to give Johnny Pavarotti (John Candy) a part in his new movie, etc.
THE BOB NEWHART SHOW: Another set that really has helped lift my gloom clouds. Another ensemble cast that seems to genuinely get along and has a feel for each other's talents. Bill Daily is an underrated sidekick. For me, he's a jazz musician (which I think he was) who knows how to add a riff here and there in his scripted part. Just as he did in "I Dream of Jeannie", but in a more realistic setting, though no less surreal.
GREEN ACRES: I just love how more and more absurd this show became. Not every episode fired on all cylinders, but there were real gems. I often wonder if the secondary players got along well with Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor. There were some interesting guest stars on that show. It must have been strange to see William Sylvester (Dr. Heywood Floyd in Kubrick's 1968 film 2001) on Green Acres in 1969!
