I used my new tip calculator on my new cell phone. I could have figured it out faster without the calculator but it wouldn't have been as much fun. I was surprised it was set to 15%. I guess that is the standard. It was an easy change, much easier than the amount I put in to figure the tip. I was using the decimal point, which is already included, and drastically upping the amount.

In Thurston County, the tax rate is 8.7%, so the easiest way to figure a tip is to just double that. I've been doing that for years. I've been to a few restaurants lately that have the tip amounts figured at 10%, 15% and 20% at the bottom of the receipt.

Oregon doesn't have a sales tax. Ashland has a special 5% prepared food tax. Do you meant the restaurants give you an option to circle one of the tax percentages to total in?

When I go out with my hiking group we usually get separate checks. A couple of times we were given one bill and told to pay up front. It got very confusing as most of us left tips at the table and then had to tell them to remove the 18% tip on the receipt. The server benefited too as we tend to leave good tips. From now on we are going to try and remember to ask for separate checks. Often we go to coffee house where we order, pay, and take our food to the table.

We don't have to circle anything, the various amounts are just shown at the very bottom of the receipt, "for your convenience." They have the "gratuity" line before the "total" line and you write in whatever amount that you want for a tip and add it up yourself. What's funny is when I'm in a group and the restaurant automatically adds an 18% (or so) tip to all the bills because of the large group, there's still the tip line where you can add an additional tip, if you wish. I just put a line through that and use their automatically added 18%.

If I don't order much I still leave $2 or $3 even if the tip percentage wise is closer to $1. That is unless the server is really bad-lol Our local places on the whole have been very friendly to our large morning group.

Earlier today, I got an e-mail from Screen Archives, saying, "We noticed that you have some items in your Screen Archives shopping cart or wish list that have been there a while. I ordered the Blu-rays to Bye Bye Birdie and Equus, and the 1960 soundtrack (limited to 3000 copies) of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, composed by Jerome Moross. This CD has this in the description:

A friend of mine years ago told me about doubling the tax, but he also said that he always leaves at least $2. I haven't always done that, but I pretty much do now.

They still have to take your order, deliver it, and return to check if everything is ok. While not usually as much work as a larger order it might not be much less work.

I rarely just order something simple. I usually have questions or changes. Even my hot chocolate isn't simple. I like double chocolate with just a dab of whip cream. Lately I have been requesting no whip cream to cut the calories.

Why?? A "serving" of whipped cream is only about two tablespoons and 15 or 20 calories. What you'd get at a restaurant is probably more than two tablespoons, but not by much. You're not really saving many calories (in my humble opinion) and to me I'd rather have the tastiness of the whipped cream.

I order extra chocolate to taste the chocolate. Adding a ton of whipped cream changes the taste and usually makes the chocolate lukewarm to cool. If I could trust I won't get a ton of whipped cream when I ask for just a very little bit, then I would always order it. One of the people in my hiking group gladly takes the whipped cream I don't want.

When we were in Australia they didn't add whipped cream and it was delicious. I came back from there thinking I don't really need it. They did add a yummy marshmallows.

You could ask for it on the side. I'm sure that that wouldn't be a problem for any restaurant, then you'd get exactly the amount that you'd want.

Do it...give in to peer pressure...you know you want to!

Well folks it's not good news for my knee.

There is a tear in the knee. The exact problem I'll have to post tomorrow. I left the paperwork in the car.

I have to see a specialist.

I have to get an MRI for the shoulder

I have to get a salary from Workman's Comp

Finished with my viewing and finally organizing all this crud that has built up in the dining room. Much nicer now and will be even nicer by Friday.
