It's beautiful outside so I have lots and lots of windows open. Other neighbors are mowing too so it smells like fresh cut grass in here, love that smell!

Oreo truffle brownies, anyone?  Or is it too early in the day?

It's NEVER too early for Oreo anything! :D

Better check the laundry and make the trip to the store. I have to be at the meeting at 7:00 and need to clean myself up and eat dinner before then.   Laters!

Good news....except for the vacuum....from DR CILLA LIZ.  Vibes for the week ahead.

Thanks!! I knew the vacuum was dying. It's not a biggie, cheap vacuums only last so long.

Greetings from . . . Home!

Two hours of my life i will never get back.

You would think after35 years of living here I would know to stay home on Sundays: there are parades, blocked streets, nightmare traffic, subway repairs, and detours.

Today, there is an African American parade and a march for the environment. The entire Upper West Side is screwed up. As soon as I realized Columbus Avenue was closed off and all downtown traffic on a congested Seventh Avenue, I should have come home. I got to 50th and Seventh Avenue on the 104, waited forever for a M20 bus that never arrived and decided that I should head back uptown. And the uptown subways are jammed because of all the people going to the environment march. I learned later from a No 7 bus driver that Sixth Avenue was closed off, so I might have waited forever for a bus back uptown from Toyland.

This is one of those shitty days where I truly detest this damned city.  Color me very frustrated.

The bad news is the neighbor next door decided to mow.....my grass on that side of the yard was the same length as his so I decided not to mow there because it looked ok...well add one more chore...not going to do it today

Hoe Down news from DR VIXMOM was most entertaining.

We did fine last night....and our substitute Bert Jefferson was fine.....the audience was fine....and we did well.  Then came the strike.

Scott and I dropped the double door unit....and it died....we were properly chastised.

Yikes!  I hate it when that happens...especially when I do something like that. :P

I said I would honor Mr. McGlinn's birthday this weekend, and so it shall be.  If I listen to BRIGADOON, as was my inclination, I hope to honor Mr. Kugel as well.

One of Dale's projects was to create a full score for BRIGADOON, and McGlinn conducted the recording from that full score. He also made a full score for THE STUDENT PRINCE, and I am privileged to have copies of both in his meticulus handwriting.  One of his last projects before retirement was the digitized full score for MY FAIR LADY.

Is this Student Prince that Jay Records recorded?

Around 1995, McGlinn conducted BRIGADOON for City Opera. He told me that his dance tempos on the recording were too fast, according to Gemze de Lappe, who reproduced the original deMille choreography for that production. I think they're quite good on the CD.

Aren't the tempos on a lot of OBCs faster than normal? The "Rose's Turn" on the Gypsy OBC is a lot faster than the recording of Merman's last performance. Though there were some others, too, which I, in my tired state, cannot think of.

And the word of the day is: APHELION!

And The Song Of The Day Is:  FLY ME TO THE MOON

Was singing this a lot last night. Couldn't get it out of my head.

She played Toccata in E Minor by Johann Pachelbel. It was beautiful.

Gorgeous. What a lovely gift.

We are actually warming up again. Today was very warm.  And I think all this week (minus maybe tomorrow) is going to be nice and warm. yeah!

I would be lamenting the loss of warm if cooler weather didn't reduce our fire risk.

And Columbia Records, and Decca and . . .

The JAY recording is the complete score. The only thing missing is the cut number "May I Come and See You, Dear, Tonight?"

I do not like that smell, probably because I am allergic to fresh mowed grass.

She was especially beautiful with dark hair, think Twilight Zone, and that was how she looked when I met her.

Most ballet recordings are also conducted faster than they are danced in the theatre.

Well, I somehow didn't get to see much of Renee Fleming last night, because I ended up having to help out my volunteer manager who was trying unsuccessfully to get other volunteers to work. I did get to hear 10 minutes of La Renee, who was in fine voice and she sounded lovely with the symphony in the new space, but I really wish I could have heard the Strauss Four Last Songs. I also heard her finale, a sing-along to "I Could Have Danced All Night," was really charming.

But some good may come of this. I had not been selected from the hundreds who wanted to usher for Paul McCartney, but by helping out my volunteer manager last night, I may have earned a spot for Paul after all. Tickets for the McCartney benefit were priced at $250-$3,500 apiece.
