Nevertheless (that's one word!), that little bit of reportage has taken us to PAGE 6.

Season Two of Blandings is even funnier than the first season. Just love Wodehouse.

I'm allergic to cut grass as well.  The good thing about a drought -- not much grass to mow!  But then again, the condo association does the mowing for us :)

Glad to hear that LA's heat wave is concluded.

We are also cooling down.

Central California cooled down to the 80's for a couple of days.  But now once again back up to the mid 90's -- just thankful the 100's have taken a break.

Well, I need to take a shower, get dressed and work concessions for A Celtic Musical Pilgrimage to Santiago: Carlos Núñez.  It should be very good.

Be back later!

Very cute.

Yes, he is!  He performed with three other guys and they all were fantastic!  It was a very small house (the final ticket count was only 107 :-\ ), but the audience loved them.  Carlos told stories and told of the history of some of the instruments that they played, and he was personable and engaging and funny.  Highly recommended by the likes of me.

I said I would honor Mr. McGlinn's birthday this weekend, and so it shall be.

I met Mr. McGlinn ages ago while dining at the no longer around Broadway fixture, Sam's with my dear friend Bryan.  He conducted Bryan on a London Anything Goes recording from the late 1980's -- Bryan was one of the sailors: http://tinyurl.com/pmv6weo
Mr. McGlinn joined us, we had a lovely visit.  BTW, he was very charming  :D

Well, I somehow didn't get to see much of Renee Fleming last night, because I ended up having to help out my volunteer manager who was trying unsuccessfully to get other volunteers to work. I did get to hear 10 minutes of La Renee, who was in fine voice and she sounded lovely with the symphony in the new space, but I really wish I could have heard the Strauss Four Last Songs. I also heard her finale, a sing-along to "I Could Have Danced All Night," was really charming.

But some good may come of this. I had not been selected from the hundreds who wanted to usher for Paul McCartney, but by helping out my volunteer manager last night, I may have earned a spot for Paul after all. Tickets for the McCartney benefit were priced at $250-$3,500 apiece.

Congrats!  Good things happen to those who help others!  Karma indeed has a good side!

The book signing went well. We sold 48 copies and signed about seven more from folks who had picked them up at Costco and elsewhere.

It was also a gorgeous morning, although it got really warm by about 11:30 a.m.

Kudos on the book sales!

Today for lunch I had STACKED EGGPLANT:
panko crusted, caramelized shallots, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, garlic, ginger, hoisin, brown rice.

The eggplant was delicious and Keith shared some of his sweet potato fries with me.  They went well with the scrumptious flavors of the eggplant dish.  I didn't finish all of the rice.

For an appetizer, and my protein, we had seasoned edamame.

OMG, sounds delicious! nom nom nom

Watching Keeping Up Appearances on PBS.  Even though there aren't that many episodes and there's a lot of repetition (Elizabeth afraid she'll break a cup, etc), I never get tired of it!

Mom and I used to watch Keeping Up Appearances every weekend.  Hyacinth Bucket Bouquet -- always trying to be superior, but poor thing was never successful.  All three sisters cracked me up, including Daisy & Rose!  They were like a re-imagined updated version of the Three Stooges.  ;D

I love when a performer interacts with the audience, being personable, engaging & funny are definitely a plus in my book!

Back from the opening of Kiss Me, Kate - I'm probably going to be circumspect in the notes, but I'll just say it was a completely misbegotten production in every possible way.  Yes, everyone's friends cheered and hollered like they were watching American Idol, but there were almost no laughs at all - and this show has a great book.  Mediocre casting throughout - the Kate was okay and Mr. Brady was way too laid back and doesn't really have the voice for this part.  He seems personable, but not a good role for him - that and a very unfortunate wig.  But for me the worst of it was the puny band of about eight, heavy on the synth - along with some of the most mind-bogglingly awful arrangements and reorchestrations I have ever had the displeasure of hearing.  Mr. Porter would have been turning over in his grave I can assure you, and right from the beginning with the Soul Train hideous arrangement of Another Op'nin, Another Show.  It's fine to want to do a Black version of the show - so I'd be hard-pressed to understand two white gangsters and a white General.  Also, some ill-advised "modern" lines have been added with big winks.  Bad sets, so-so lighting and not so hot choreography.  And SLOOOOOOOOW tempos.  The show ran almost three hours with intermission, and that was after the twenty-five minutes of speechifying before the show began.

I just watched "White House Down."  It was action filled, mindless entertainment.

It had a lot of explosions and yet some mumbled dialogue...however when they mumbled, it was because the characters needed to be quiet and not because they just mumbled.  Otherwise, the actors did talk loudly enough.

There is, of course, absolutely no way that what happened in the movie could ever actually happen...ever.
