It's sundown in Manhattan.

Here's wishing my Jewish friends a happy Rosh Hashanah!

Jane, glad you're enjoying David Liss. As you know, I have high regard for his work. A CONSPIRACY OF PAPER is a very hard act to follow. I've recommended it many times, telling people that they needn't be interested in the stock market or Jewish history to enjoy the story. I think you confirmed that. But, for me, those two elements greatly added to my interest.

I feel pretty good today, DR Elmore.  I think there might have been a file cabinet somewhere in my dreams, but the jury is still out on that.

I found the missing ball bearing about 4:00 yesterday afternoon! I had to pull the 2nd cabinet out for a second to fix the wall plug, and there it was!

It's somehow comforting to find that a lost object didn't, in fact, change into some other form of energy...

Does our DR Chas have talents he hasn't told us about? Perhaps that is too personal. Or too alchemical. Or too Scientific American.

Well, I am interested in Jewish history.  And I know a bit about the stock market because of Keith ;)

I think they are very well written books and I like the main characters in each story.

Finished the commentary, read through it, finessed it, and that's one less thing to do.

Then the ubiquitous long telephonic call and now I'm relaxing until I'm on my way to Westlake Audio.

There was a light drizzle while I was out with my hiking group this morning.  The rain kindly waited until I was home and it has been pouring all afternoon :)

Thank you, all, for the vibes and good wishes!  I'm really tired of feeling poorly and being poor.

Jane, my brothers believed in 2007 they would get $1,000,000 for my dad's property since it was next to the new hospital. My attitude was that, whether we got that or we made $300,000 on the deal, it was found money. The 2008 recession meant we would not get the million, and since then they've continued to price it too high because the Macbeths are greedy asses.  They did nothing for three years to sell it and resented my talking to a realtor about handling the property. So, if it sells before I die, I will get a nice retirement bundle that would not be as high as it could have been, but if we had sold it in 2007, I would have probably lost half of my third in the 2008 crash.

At this point, if we sold the property for $3,000, it would give me more than I have at present and I am sick of living hand to mouth.

Well, you knew you were never going to get a million for it, though it would have been nice if they were right for once.

Vibes you get more than what you have paid in taxes plus some!

And now, <drum roll, please> the BURNING QUESTION:

DR George, did you find a pillow you like?

Yes...for the most part.  Did you see what I wrote about what I found?:

Quote
After I left my parents' house, I went to the Costco by their house to see if they had either kitty treats or Barbra's "Partners" album.  They had neither.  I went to the Lacey Target store and I bought the special edition CD from there.*  The Lacey Target is right next to Kohl's so I decided (remembered, actually) to see if they had any pillows that I might like.

As I was walking from Target to Kohl's, I saw my mom and her friend Mona walking out of Kohl's.  What a coinkydink!  She asked what I was doing there and I told her I was going to look at pillows.

It turned out that she had a reusable 30% off coupon, but she had to pay for whatever it was used for.  So, I quickly went upstairs to the pillow section and found something that I hope will like.

I actually got two because they were having a 50% off sale (buy-one-get-one-free)!  AND the coupon was another 30% off that.  So, instead of paying $140, the two pillows only cost me $51 and change!  I saved about $91! **

I bought two because if I like one (I only need one at a time), then I'll have another one when the first one gets too old.  If I don't really like it, I can still take back one because I won't have used it at all.  I have to let the one I do try air out before I use it, so I probably won't try to sleep on it until the weekend when I don't have to get up early if I can't get to sleep easily.

I slept on it for two nights and even though it raises my head a little higher than the pillow that I now have (and love), it's a pretty good replacement.  It doesn't support when I want to prop myself up and watch TV in bed (it squishes down much more than my current pillow), but I can live with that.  However, it'll be a while before I finally get rid of the pillow that I have.

*I totally forgot that I had a $5 Target gift card.  I hate it when that happens.

**My math wasn't quite right.  I was told by the sales person that I saved $91 (and I didn't see the actual receipt), but it turns out that this was before taxes.  I actually owe my mom about $53 for the two.  Still a pretty darned good deal!

This morning the DD was able to walk downstairs on his own to go outside, and he has (finally) started eating a little bit. I believe we have turned the corner (for the better)!  Thanks for all your kind wishes - they seem to have done the trick. I am very grateful.    :)

I keep saying you need a full-time personal assistant.       :)

But then he would need to convert the fire escape into servant quarters, leaving me with no place to stay next time I am in NY
LOL, DR Jane! Ashland hasn't had reasonable real estate prices since the 90s.

LOL  They are now.

I think you'd have to define reasonable, with real estate it's all relative

Yesterday's Library Report:

SHADOW OF A DOUBT.  (I have seen several times and I really like it)
THE NATURAL (I have also seen several times. This was filmed in Buffalo which makes it extra special to me)
BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT ( I can't remember if I saw this or not)
THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES ( I also saw this and really enjoyed it)

LIBRARY BOOK:

THE CITY OF DARKNESS AND LIGHT BY RHYS BOWEN.  Have any DR"S read this? It is a MOLLY MURPHY NOVEL.

PURCHASED USED BOOKS:

THE QUEENS'S FOOL, BY PHILIPPA GREGORY
ELSKE, BY CYNTHIA VOIGT.

Have any DR'S READ THIS?
.

I am quite the fan of Phillipa Gregory. I enjoyed the Queen's Fool very much.  I have also been enjoying the stories of ex women involved in the War of the Roses
