Jennifer, I loved "Grand Budapest Hotel," but I may be in a minority here on that one.

I really enjoyed it, also!

My library has a bunch of dvds that I am considering watching. Has anybody seen any of these?
1.A Million Ways to Die in the West
2.The Winter Soldier/Captain America
3.Million Dollar Arm
4.Noah/Russell Crowe
5.The Railway Man /Nicole Kidman
6.The Grand Budapest Hotel
7.The Monument's Men
8. Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit

and tv:
1.True Detective season 1
2.Ray Donovan season 1

I want to see "A Million Ways to Die in the West," but haven't yet.  I watched and enjoyed "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "The Monuments Men" and "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" (although, I've never seen any of the previous Jack Ryan movies...none of them).

Your prediction came true DR RLP....you should hang out a shingle.

Mr Dreyfuss was the Stage Manager in Valley of the Dolls who knocks on Neely's door to tell her she's on....."My God, she's wearing her second act dress."  "So....I'll do the second act first...."

OMG!  And he wasn't nominated for that??   :)

If it's any help, I'm getting some vibrations that you should be encouraging members of your family to take better care of themselves to decrease the likelihood that they might need to move in with you for assistance/care in their declining years.

Well, I have one who hasn't moved out yet but has a new job.

I have one who is waiting for immigration status for a S.O. to come to the US.

I have one who recently retired and hasn't quite decided what to do now.

It Might Be Fun was written for what was meant to be the follow-up film to Nudie Musical, Sailors, a funny send-up of the sailor musicals of the 40s and 50s updated to the 70s, about three young men from a tiny town who join what was then the Now Navy thinking it's going to be just like the musicals of old, i.e. singing, dancing, and shore leave.  They find out differently.  On leave, as in On the Town, they meet three different girls, one of whom worked selling fish at the Farmer's Market.  This was her song, but with very character specific lyrics.  I've always loved the tune of it and the lyric worked well for the character.  Sandy and Lanny also loved the tune and the idea of it, so I rewrote the character specific lyrics - only one verse, the final one, remained unchanged.  I just love the chart Lanny did and think Sandy did a great job on a very difficult song to sing in terms of its breath control.  Glad two or three people enjoyed it.

From DR John:
Quote
Sort of. But she made it longer and uglier. And almost Southern, not British. And the film is set in Germany, and the character is German. She should be pronouncing it the German way, which is the way you would pronounce it. It does not rhyme with snaps.

You would think someone would have told her how to pronounce it the German way.

I'll be going back to the office this morning. My department has been very kind and supportive during this time. They even sent flowers to the memorial which was completely unexpected. I don't remember telling them where the memorial was being held. They must have googled and found her obituary. I was, as the English say, gobsmacked by the flowers.

This is very sweet & touching.

TOD: Yep, I think "Broadcast News" and "Jaws" are going to be the clear winners today. Although I did also like Dreyfuss in "Down and Out in Beverly Hills". I know a lot of people really liked "Raising Arizona" (Hunter), but I never liked that film.
I, too, saw "Always" many years ago and I thought it was okay. I enjoyed learning something about what's involved in putting out forest fires. But what was truly pathetic was how the movie "Ghost" totally ripped off "Always" a year later. Of course, Ghost was a better film (mostly because of Whoopi Goldberg), but still I don't think plagiarism like that should be allowed.

I think GHOST was more like KISS ME GOODBYE than ALWAYS.  I'm sure if I wasn't tired I could think of a few other one.

My legs are so sore today and I'm trying to figure out why.

I have been biking 5 times a week since Labor Day. But last weekend I did not bike sat-sun-mon (not feeling well).I biked Tuesday. But wed-thurs-fri were raining/cold/too windy.  I biked inside on Saturday and biked outside on Sunday (and raked leaves).  And this morning my legs hurt so much.

Maybe biking indoors is more strenuous cause i'm peddling so much faster?

You use different muscles on an indoor bike, also when raking leaves.

Well, gosh!  I liike it even more now that I know where it came from and what it was written for!

Pet Grievance:   On occasion (more than two or three times over the past year), I have posted something here to the forum and gotten a message saying I "timed out".  I scroll down and click on "Post" once again and it posts.

TOD:

So many for both of them.....but then I also DON'T like them in others.....so

Dreyfuss:  Jaws, The Goodbye Girl, The Competition, Mr. Holland's Opus, Valley of the Dolls

Hunter: Raising Arizona, Miss Firecracker, The Texas Cheerleader Murdering Mom, and a TV movie Harlan County War

I have absolutely no memory of Dreyfuss in "Valley of the Dolls".

LOL I was also surprised to see he was in it.

Another future Academy Award Winner was in VOTD....and I don't mean Lee Grant.  Marvin Hamlisch played the piano for Neely when she is rehearsing Hit The Sky, the Helen Lawson show....that she was kicked out of.
