I once  brought out the ladder and cleaned out the gutters during a  sleet storm  but that was because the weight of the sleet was pulling the siding from the house and making water pour inside the  windows of the kitchen

and Vixdad was at work   I was home because of a delayed school start time, the Vixter was only about 8 or 9 at the time

So the Vixter has picked up another job

She was at the Deals store (she worked there last  year and quit when  the college semester started) and they had a hiring notice up.  There is a new manager there who doesn't know her, but  several of the employees  gave unsolicited recommendations to him as she was filling in the application so he hired her on the spot

Great news!  What kind of store is Deals?

It is part of the Dollar Tree family of stores but in addition to the $1 items it  has items up to $20

Ah, so they have Deals, I get it

I haven't been feeling too well today, but I did climb up on the garage roof to caulk a place where the slate shingles have separated and it looks like water can leak in.  I need to call a roofer to fix it, but so far all the roofers have lengthy waiting periods.  I'm hoping that my caulk job will help until I can do more

I am constantly amazed by you Cilla... the last time I climbed up on my roof was ....never

Oh, it was just on the flat roof of the garage and I can easily climb the ladder to get there.  One side of my garage goes into the side of the hill so it's only about 6 or 7 feet from the roof to the ground.  It isn't scary to be there.  I've actually thought of putting a deck up on top of the garage.  It would be a really nice view

I really don't think I did a very good on the roof today.  But it's supposed to rain or snow on Monday and I don't want it to leak in.  I'm sure when someone who knows what they are doing looks at it they will shake their head or laugh, but it should hopefully keep the water out until I can get someone to come fix it

Tomorrow I really do need to be productive.  Lots to do around the house and several projects I'd like to complete for work.  They are all in the final phases and just need to take the time to put them together and ship them off to various immigration offices

TOD:  I haven't had too many problems with hotel reservations.  I have been given keys and found someone else in the room a couple times.  I went to check in in Toronto at the Sheraton when I went to a conference and they didn't have a reservation listed.  It took awhile to get it fixed.  I had an email confirmation, but they found a room for me, so I kind of forgot about it.

I can't think of any lost reservations  or reservation issues   but there was a worse hotel/motel room ever...

my mom, the Vixter and I went to Florida on a girls' only trip when the Vixter was 2 1/2

We  made no reservations  instead deciding to just drive until we felt like stopping  and then  find a room

when we go to South of the Border we stopped to eat (they actually have or at least at that time had a nice steak restaurant)  after our meal we decided to just call it a night and see if they had a room

the rooms in the "nice" motel area were all booked   but they had a second, much less expensive area where truck drivers would spend the night so we took one of those rooms

It seemed "Ok"  2 beds (the Vixter had  her own  Graco travel bed in those days)   walls needed paiinting or repapering   but it seemed clean enough  although a little closer to the highway than you might have wished

It also had two doors leading  to the parking lot, one on either wall...  we discovered in the middle of the night that every time a truck zoomed by the resulting wind and vibrations would cause both doors to shake and rattle as if someone were trying to break in

The Vixter slept like a baby but Mom and I laid in our respective beds terrified, but silent for fear of waking the other

finally around 4;30 / 5 Am  I cautiously and quietly  went to use the bathroom and my Mom whispered

"Are you up?"

I apologized for waking her  at which point I discovered she was wigging out as much as I was

we decided to leave THEN

OH! I had a horrible motel room once.  I was going to school at the U of Iowa after transferring from KU.  I drove back to visit some friends and got caught in a snow storm in northern Missouri on the way home.  I kept thinking I'd drive out if it, but it just got worse, so by the time I pulled off, all the good motel rooms were booked.  I stopped at a real hole in the wall.  Looked kind of like the Bates Motel, only not quite as nice.  There was no telephone in the room (this was before cell phones) I could go to a common area and make a collect call.   In the room, the closet was a pipe coming off of a water heater.  There were holes in the wall that looked like they were covered with duct tape.....but it seemed clean and it was warm and dry and had a tv.   The next morning when I left the snow was knee deep in the parking lot and the lot was full of others like me, glad to have a safe warm place to sleep.

It's supposed to stay north of us, only about an inch of snow here. Time to get out my long underwear.

I love that one.  I used to have to park on the street or in an uncovered spot.  It is not fun.  I'm very lucky now that I have a garage at home and park in a parking ramp at work.

And I get to decide if it's a snow day or a work from home day.  No wonder I like winter more than I used to
