Yes, I think Nick Nickleby qualifies as a mini-series...It was 8-odd hours, show over several nights and was a television event.

In fact, I do believe it won the Emmy for best mini-series the year it premiered on PBS.

I number NN as one of my favorite mini-series.  I also liked QBVII, Roots, The Thorn Birds, Shogun, Holocaust, I, Claudivs, and Lonesome Dove (also, its sequel, the name of which escapes me at the mo'.)

I couldn't get into Rich Man, Poor Man, mostly because of the way ABC began to cut it up into weekly hour long episodes.

I think the last miniseries I tried to watch was Stephen King's Storm of the Century, which started out as excellent but gradually spiraled into nonsense.

I thought I'ld join in on JRand's eBay scavanger hunt.  This is what I found:

I feel cheap and dirty just looking at the cover.

Strange MATTH, I never noticed the ring....now I will have to look.  Wasn't Gertrude a hoot?  It was so strange to see her!

Sad to hear about CHARLIE BROWN, but I kind of felt the same way when I heard to new recording.  I loved both CB and SNOOPY!!! - but maybe it was a different time....and as you know the past is a foreign country, they do things differently there.

Thanks for that review Francois....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Good Evening!

My closing night started off on a funny foot - at least for me...

Normally, I take the Metro and bus to the theatre, which usually ends up getting me there early - no later than 6:30 which is when the theatre opens.  Well, today, Ryan - who is in the cast - was kind enough to give me a ride to theatre since he lives right around the corner from where I was staying.  Well, we didn't leave until around 6:45.

As we were going up Highland, my cell phone rings... It's Dale, our stage manager.  "Where are you?  Are you all right?!?!?"  -Apparently, my "tardiness" had caused some worry for Dale and for BK.  All was well.  I was just getting to the theatre a little later tonight that's all.  And I walked into the theatre about three minutes after hanging up the phone. ;)

The closing show went very well.  Good audience.  Good performance.  -And some nice Closing Night cards and gifts. :)

DR Panni took an "after" picture of me which she'll be posting later.

I decided to pass on the party since I'll be leaving for the airport in about five hours.  Ah, well...  I also just wanted to make sure I wasn't scrambling at the last minute to get my luggage together - which is what I usually end up doing.  I just did some more packing, and it should take only about ten more minutes of redistributing items from one bag to another before I can zip them up.

Right now, I'm just taking it easy.  Relaxing.  And then probably a shower, and then, hopefully, a few winks of sleep.  We shall see...

-I'm actually a bit tired right now.  I think "everything" that has happened over the past 11 weeks(!) is finally catching up with me.  I'm just hoping my jet lag won't be too bad once I get back.  I'm just thankful MAMMA MIA! starts on Wednesday instead of on Tuesday.  *However,  MAMMA MIA! is playing in Norfolk, and Hurricane Jeanne may be hanging around Virginia by then... And the tunnels in and out of Norfolk have a tendency to flood, so... Again, we shall see...

Man on the move......

As wonderful as the trip has been - I am sure it will be nice to get home!

I actually did have a wonderful time while I was out here.  More wonderful than I ever thought it could be.  It wasn't that I had a bunch of "excitement" while I was out here, but the "vibe" while I've been out here has been very positive.  Catching up with old friends.  Eating various foods.  Exploring the city.  Eating more food.  Taking advantage of the MTA, the public transportation system.  Eating even more food.  Seeing some wonderful movies.  Seeing some - well ONE really bad movie.  Oh, and I can't forget to mention The Ten Commandments... ;)

There were a few days here and there where the homesickness did set in, but, all in all, L.A. felt like "home" while I was out here.

And I have to make sure and thank my friend, Chris, for not only housing me for a couple of weeks while I was out here, but for also helping out with the show with his work on the "Coming Attractions" audio.  "Hey, would you mind recording some stuff for the show?" ;)

And another big Thank You to DR Jay for housing me during most of the run.  I had a great time out in Pasadena, and I hope to get back to Old Pasadena sometime.

And Thanks again to all the DRs for their well-wishes for everyone involved with What If?  I'm sure those patented Hainsie/Kimlet Vibes were a part of our success.

And, of course, last but not least, I have to Thank our very own BK for calling me, for trusting me, for taking the chance on me.  I would not have made it out to L.A. and had such a wonderful overall time without you.  Thank You.

I'm back. Enjoyed the show.
Dropped by DuPars for some food as I was starving. Read the New York Times while I ate a bowl of soup and a sandwich. Exciting night in the big city. Here are a few pictures as promised.
This is bk and his DD in the cafe before the show. The ambient light was low, so the quality is not great.

Oh!

I also want make to sure to acknowledge all the work that Tammy Minoff has done for the show.  -And she still has some more work to get done in the next few days - *If you're in L.A. and want to help with the strike tomorrow...

Not only was Tammy in the show - learning, rehearsing and performing - she was also the producer for the show.  Lots of wheeling and dealing, phone calls, e-mails, trouble-shooting(!), etc.

Although it was sad to see the show close (for now), it's good to know that Tammy will be getting part of her "life" back in a few days.  She's been a true trouper.
