Well, you've read the notes, the notes were west when they should have been east, and now it is time for you to post until the westerly easterly cows come home.

We took a lovely long walk in the woods of a nearby state park yesterday afternoon with my best friend from high school who is visiting here from north of Seattle. Great weather for it, too.

We have two dinner parties to attend today - one mid afternoon, one tonight.

It is going to be quite strange not having Memorial Day weekend on the last weekend of this month.

Has anyone else been listening to Josh Groban's new CD of show music, Stages?  I'm not sure yet how I feel about the arrangements.

The Jerome Kern Facebook page says:

Quote
Jerome Kern was possibly the greatest melodicist who ever wrote popular songs.

Is melodicist a word?

What kind of a scoundrel would do something like that?

Good morning, all  Even though Staples screwed up my plans at Toyland yesterday, I must go there this morning and deal with an emergency for my Jerome Moross co-editor.  I hope I can be finished by early afternoon.

Last night's bizarre dream gave me a reincarnation jolt, like did this really happen 300 years ago?  I dreamed I was in New York for an audition (!) and I went to Lincoln Center to see a rehearsal of Moliere's wonderful Tartuffe.  The ticket cost $231 and nearly bankrupted me.  Anyway, there was a string orchestra accompanying the comedy, and the cast was all dressed in 17th century costumes. It wasn't a Tartuffe I recognized: the plot was there, but the orchestra kept playing, and there were interludes with songs and actors speaking to the audience. Perhaps I actually saw this production in another life?

I will taxi down to Toyland, since i'm carrying a storage box and too much other junk.  The earlier I leave, the less traffic and lower the fare.

Last night I watched the 2012 film of "Great Expectations." There were good moments but David Lean nailed it, and Martita Hunt holds the monopoly on Miss Havisham and Helena Bonham Carter gave the role a good try.

Still, given the plots and subplots, I think, like most Dickens novels, it needs more than two hours to give enough time to the setup, overall plot, the eccentrics, and the unraveling.  I did like a lot of the actors, especially Ralph Fiennes as Magwich and Jason Flemyng as Joe Gargery. The moody sets and costumes were good, but I'm not sure the director told the story well.  This was the smoke signals narrative.

I read this book over 50 years ago, and I was amazed how little I remembered.  Time to reread it.

Sunday morning greetings!  Because I chose not to stay in the conference hotel, I am not entitled to their free breakfast.  The hotel where I did stay (for free with reward points) does not offer complimentary breakfast, so here I am at the McDonald's across the street.  It's much quieter here than in a hotel lobby full of women, I'm sure.

Yesterday afternoon, I watched a couple of movies on TCM that I hadn't seen for about 65 years:

THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN with Mickey Rooney
KIDNAPPED with Roddy McDowell and Dan O'Herlihy.

Enjoyed the first very much.  The second was just so-so, but it was fun seeing my late friend, Dan, in one of his earlier roles.

Good morning, all.

Last night on the way home from Norwalk, I gave in to a rare sweet tooth craving and picked up several things at Dunkin' Donuts for a late night snack and this morning's awakening.  I even splurged on a box of DD K-cups.  So here I am, opening my eyes with various and sundry delectable treats for which I shall surely pay later in some way or other.
