The answer to that question is - a resounding yes, apparently.  Hats are back with a vengeance.  There are hat stores popping up all over the country.

Last Thursday I had plans for lunch with my friend Jan. Jan and I grew up together and her birthday is the day after mine, so we usually have a birthday lunch sometime in late May. She'll be out of town, so we had it this past week. She called me that morning to tell me that her friend Janis just learned that the daughter of a close friend in Scotland was murdered by her boyfriend. Arrrghhh! Jan asked if she could bring Janis along to lunch. Of course. I'd heard about Janis, but had never met her. I liked her and was glad we could offer some pleasant company during such a stressful time, but it did put a bit of a damper on a celebratory lunch. I can lunch with Jan again once she returns from vacation.

Why isn't Janis on a flight to Scotland?

Because it is Janis's friend that needs to go to Scotland.

I love hat stores.  The problem is I buy to many hats.

I WEAR too many hats - a blessing and a curse, not necessarily in that order.

I should wear a hat as I have a nearly natural monk's tonsure, or male pattern baldness, that goes back to my maternal grandfather who was almost totally bald. He made up for that by wearing Homburgs with feathers, and by growing a handlebar moustache. I have tried many different kinds of hats and I always think I look stupid. Maybe it's the kind of shopping one has to do with another. That's true of frames for eyeglasses.

Good afternoon. I spent several hours participating in the North American Migratory Bird Count today. Luckily, it is a nice cool day today.

LOL, DR Vixmom!  The 2 bags of Lindt truffles are going to Mom as part of her Mother's Day gift.  The rest is up for grabs.

Some people can carry off wearing a hat with distinction. Some can't. I am one of the latter.

Back from a lovely garden party. It was bittersweet because we were saying goodbye to a friend who is moving to Charlotte for business.

How can we manage to get to page six by one o'clock, and in seven hours we have only gotten to page seven?

This photo was taken in the teeming port of Grand Turk.  My cruise ship is the blue one on the left.  The ship on the right is the Carnival ship, Fantasy.  Thirty-two years ago, when I first became a travel agent, Carnival flew me down to Miami to tour their ships.  The final ship we toured was their pride and joy, the Fantasy.

I've never been on a cruise ship.  It looks pretty darned impressive!

They are pretty damn impressive.  And they are a lot of fun.

I've seen cruise ships on the Hudson, maybe they were leaving from Jersey City. They easily were as tall as some of the office buildings in Manhattan. Almost as if you could walk from the ship into the 20th floor of a neighboring building. Could have been an optical illusion. My depth perception has always been problematic and I could never guesstimate how large a room is or how tall someone is.

A lot of ships sail from Bayonne (Cape Liberty), NJ.

Well I for one went to a meeting at church with the Vixter. We have been named co leaders of the community garden that we will be creating at the church on the last Sunday of the month

It may be due to my consternation at what am I going to do to get to my friends' other than by Greyhound, which scares me. Maybe I've become more sensitive since my cancer illness? I also have my presurgical screening on the 20th which comes before that, so maybe I need to focus on what comes first.
