Yesterday our new adjustable mattress was delivered.  They could only put 3/4 of the bed together as the warehouse sent the wrong size for the last section.

If they don't deliver it today we have a big problem since we expect company to use the guest bed on the 4th.

Had a pre-breakfast snack of the first two figs from the tree in the backyard this morning. Love that flavor. Hoping the rest are just as good and that the neighboring cats, who love my backyard, will keep the birds away.

Speaking of three hour movies, I bought the roadshow edition of "The Happiest Millionaire" on DVD, which clocks in at 172 minutes. WTH? Why would you make a family musical that long? Why would anyone make a Tommy Steele movie that long? His grin, with its 14 rows of teeth, is nowhere to be seen on the box.

I don't know if I'll have the time to watch it this weekend. I also found In Which We Serve and Mamma Mia for $1.99 each, so I have those, too.

Am listening now to Bryn Terfel's Alan Jay Lerner album. He's really good on the Kurt Weill and Charles Strouse songs, more of a mixed bag on the Loewe. But his version of "I Call the Wind Maria" really makes me want to hear the new "Paint Your Wagon." Any release date that you know of, Elmore?

Tent party with sleeping bags? No. I thought not.

Saturday Friday morning greetings!

Good morning, all.

On the Friday that feels like a Saturday.

For everyone in the U.S. of A. except vixmom.

And Leah, the nurse practitioner in our doctor's office, with whom I have a 1:15 appointment to see about the swelling in my left leg and foot.  You see, that's the leg where I've had blood clots twice before and I don't want to take any chances.

Autumn.  I don't even know if they've recorded Keith Carradine yet; he was the one cast member who couldn't make the sessions.

I've spent the morning transferring to my desktop the files from my Toyland computer that I downloaded to Dropbox.  They are now burned onto CD-roms.

I also sent some Dropbox files to friends, and I'm copying orchestra parts for the last Appendix number in JUBILEE, a dreadful ditty called "Sing Jubilee," which may be the worst song Cole Porter ever wrote.

I've never heard Sing Jubilee but I think Mack the Black from The Pirate and I Happen to Like New York also rank as some of the worst stuff Porter ever wrote. And I like Porter. I just happen to LOATHE The Pirate (an unwatchable mess with a score to match IMHO) although I know it has many vocal defenders and I hate that New York song.

Thanks, DR Singdaw.  It's probably nothing, but I have a bag packed - just in case.  You know, the necessities like phone and iPad charging cords, knitting, reading glasses, and an extra book.

Everything was good in Bad Seed Land last night.  A performance quality rehearsal.

We are not rehearsing tonight because three of the leads had prior commitments....so DAY OFF...actually THREE days off.  Hopefully Monday will not be disastrous because of it.

Stage Manager could not find the plastic funnel I bought him to pour the colored water into the liquor bottles....no where to be found.....  I asked him where he left it...he said beside the sink....which of course LINDA says is HER sink, not the dishwashing sink....

So during the cast meeting before the show, since she was there to take production photos, I asked everyone if they had seen the funnel....that it was missing, and I hated to have to buy another one.

Linda spoke up and said, "I hid it, it was left on the counter where it shouldn't have been."

And I said: "Well maybe we put it there as a gift for you."

She didn't say anything....but NOW everyone knows.....

I happen to love I Happen to Like New York. Those chords striking that hymn-like tone.

IMO, Porter's worst is I Sing of Love from Kiss Me, Kate.

Watching a fine little noir from the library called Bodyguard. Fun cast with Priscilla Lane and Lawrence Tierney. And it was Robert Altman's first co-screenwriter credit.
