I'm thinking not unless I send you a code for a free download - but George had trouble with that and I don't know if it was solved.

From George:
It sort of was, but it wasn't.  I could've read it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablet, but the size of the font was very small and not scaleable.  And it never worked on my Kindle.  I broke down and read the physical book in an afternoon. :)

I suppose now isn't the time for me to attempt this.  Maybe when my house is in order.

Yes, that is the corner of my front yard.  The water is receding....like my hairline....but it got closer to my house than it ever has.

People down and across the street had water in their homes......

You got lucky!

It's time to turn on the AC and make the bed.

Last night I finished CRANFORD, cried like a baby, then began the BBC's Christmas sequel RETURN TO CRANFORD.  I'll finish it tonight.  Judi Dench has become my all-time favorite actress.

We haven't seen Return to Cranford.  I will have to look for this.

I've heard Jonathan Schwartz' radio show today for the first time. Never again.

And on that note - B-sharp - I will leave to meet the singer for coffee.  I would rather stay in the AC, but I do look forward to the meeting.

DR Cillaliz, I hope that you have one fantastic birthday, filled with all the traditional trimmings:
Good food
Good friends
Ice cream and cake
Expensive gifts

Right now I'm doing laundry, but Paul and I are going to a movie later.  It's going to be a pretty quiet day, laundry and a little more cleaning.   When I had my car accident I didn't have the luxury of having all the chores done before I had to recuperate.  This time I'm going to have everything done and clean so I can just sit back, read books, watch movies and get better.  So I don't mind doing some of that on my birthday, it will be a gift to myself

A good gift as it will make you feel better.

I just cleaned and listened to a little bit of the German MY FAIR LADY cast album I rescued yesterday.  It's in near perfect condition and sounds well recorded.  Right off the bat, the orchestra sounded damned nice, and then so did the cast.  Glancing over the liner notes, I found it was conducted by none other than Franz Allers.

Checked on Amazon.de, and I see it's not only still in print on CD, it's the first one shown in the search results.  So, nothing rare, except for being a really nice vinyl find.  I'm delighted to have it.

Maybe I'm getting Close Encounters and ET confused re the Dome.  I originally saw Close Encounters at an Academy screening - Mr. George Lucas was sitting behind me.

Nope, my moviegoing memory continues its perfect record - Close Encounters opened on November 18 at the Cinerama Dome.  It conceivably could have moved to the Paramount after the Dome run.

BUT, ChasSmith's memory is also excellent and correct - on December 14, Close Encounters moved from the Dome to the Paramount, which means it played less than three weeks at the Dome.

Interesting, because for the longest time I couldn't remember where I had first seen ET.  My second time was at the Picwood, but I'd been blank on the first for years.  For some reason I just didn't connect it with the Dome.

I thought I had a good memory, but I doubt I could remember at which theater I saw certain movies!

I spent the afternoon watching RETURN TO CRANFORD, a most delightful Christmas production. For musical theatre aficionados, Julia McKenzie sings a beautiful, melancholy song at a social gathering, and Jonathan Pryce and Tim Curry have wonderful roles.  Michelle Dockery of DOWNTON ABBEY has a nice secondary role.  It's a lovely sequel to the original 2007 production, which is glorious.

RIP Jon Vickers, 88.

Around 1985 I saw him in PETER GRIMES at the Met.  A beautiful production.
