I think we have someone coming today to give us a quote for a screen door that rolls, the kind you only use when you want to leave your door open.

I see one heckuva millstone approaching, DR Ron.  Okay, there's five hundred posts to go.  But you can do it!

I was going to ask BK if there are any interior photos of Coffee Dan's, meaning the one on Hollywood near Highland.  Though I've searched before, I just looked again and stumbled upon this astounding photograph for the first time (scroll down to second post):

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=170279&page=870

Unless I'm having the world's largest brain fart, I don't remember ever knowing about that one.  I DO remember BK once thinking there had also been a Coffee Dan's near Vine St., if not right on it.  But the address, 1511 N. Vine, is just north of Melrose -- and that building is Wallich's, isn't it?

Okay, here's the deal.  Search on 1511 Vine Street and you get Vine at Sunset.  Search on 1511 N. Vine Street and it's Vine at Melrose.  Good lord.

ASK BK

Because it came up again on Facebook.

Have you ever thought of recording the songs from your musical version of To Kill A Mockingbird or perhaps evening at Kritzerland at Sterlings with special guest star Don Murray

Apropos DR Ron Pulliam's post earlier...

Does anyone know the story of Frank Sinatra's recording of "Strangers in the Night."
What's with the "DOO BEE DOO BEE DOO" section??     ???

He was in his "doo bee doo bee doo" phase...that's all.

Sort of like Bing Crosby having his "boo boo boo boo" phase.

Is 1511 Vine and N. Vine on an intersection?  Sunset crossing Vine and becoming Melrose?

Sunset and Melrose run east and west, parallel, about a mile apart.  Vine runs north and south, crossing them.

That is disappointing, DR Jrand64, but ultimately I guess it is for the best.

I am home from Columbia. Missed the rain coming and going, so I hope my luck holds out for other things as well, like selling that damned Ohio property or winning the lottery.

Further good wishes for your dad, DR JRand64!

Oatmeal raisin cookie, I think.

Or prehaps a snickerdoodle.

From Bruce:
And here is what has become of my father's restaurant at 3474 W. 8th Street - should be a head on view of "grand opening" - at least they've cleaned it up - I may have to go down there and check it out :)  If you drag the view to the right looking west you'll see a corner yellow building next to a red building - that whole thing was called Carl's Market - there's a beauty salon next to the restaurant - that was a barber shop, where my father got his haircuts once a week.  If you drag to the left the corner building at the other corner was the drugstore where I bought all my paperback books.

https://www.google.com/maps/@34.057667,-118.306018,3a,75y,181.5h,84t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sXbQzv32h53lY3ug0tKF5bw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Drag the view to the left corner where the drugstore was and turn right onto Hobart.  You will see the parking lot for the "drugstore".  To the left of that, 809 So Hobart, was my father's office.  It was in a house that he and another doctor converted into a very nice office in 1969.  It was far more attractive than it is today.

I want a cookie.

In my mind's ear, I always hear Angela Lansbury singing "Lookee, lookee, here comes cookie now!" from the Cookie Ballet in Anyone Can Whistle.

Lunchtime!  Then I'm going to bake cupcakes for my book group.  They're coming here tomorrow evening to discuss THE ASTRONAUT WIVES CLUB and I'm serving things like they would have had at their "launch watch parties."  It's not a meal event, so we're just having layered Jello (red, white, & blue, of course) and cupcakes stuck with little American flags.
