I brought two sammiches.  One is spicy roast beef with mustard, and the other is peppered turkey and mayonnaise.

Apparently dear reader Ron Pulliam missed all of the posts about the Paul Williams Kritzerland evening.  And am I really reading that someone else just did one?  Hmmm.

Back from a nice breakfast meeting - and if all goes according to Hoyle, which we hope it will, we will be bringing Welcome to My World to NY in November for four or five performances.

It's always funny to me - no cabaret has done a tribute to Paul Williams until we did - some people said why would you do that, to which I replied why would I do anything?  And suddenly there's another one a month later.  These coincidences are amusing.  We'll see how fast we get an Andre Previn show :)

Has Paul Williams written anything recently?

According to wiki, Paul Williams has still been productive in the 2010's.  And he co-won the Album of the Year award at the 2014 Grammys, as a producer on the Daft Punk album.

I had put a wiki link but it didn't take for some reason.  I'll try it again.

That link doesn't seem to want to work.  May be the ) at the end?

I could keep trying to post that Paul Williams link until we get to page 4, but that wouldn't be all that interesting.

I just buy a 100 pack of DVD's on EBAY.  I look for whatever is less than $20 with free shipping.  I have never had any problems with any of them.....but I might not be as discerning as DR GEORGE.

Thanks also for the DVD info.  I didn't think to look on eBay.  I'm not really that discerning, but I don't want to get a bunch of defective or really low quality discs.

I like your idea very much, DR Ron Pulliam. A lot of work for bk, but it could really be something.

And yet, it's something he is VERY WELL VERSED IN, with all his memories of L.A. and his stories told in his Kritzerland novels.

Agreed!  I think that that's a great idea, especially for someone like BK.

Here's a link to a PDF of the Paul Williams tribute program.  It was a wonderful evening.  And good lord, there was a lot of stuff I'd forgotten about.

http://home.comcast.net/~chasmith7/PaulWilliams2001.pdf

"Loser's Lounge" has done some great stuff.  I went to a few of their shows back in the day.  In particular, I remember this one and a Brian Wilson one that was also quite wonderful.  I guess they're still going strong, but I haven't gotten down there for that in years.

Not only was Paul Williams in it, but Michael Cerveris and Mary Birdsong were, too!  (They're the only other names that I recognize.)

Good morning, all.

Vibes and hugs for Larry, Cillaliz, Mike, Druxy, Vixmom, Jeanne, JRand's dad, and everyone else in need.

I'd like to add my mother-in-law to that list, please.

You may. Vibes for DR Laura's DMIL.

Ron Pulliam's idea about then and now is interesting and something that had already been rummaging around in my mind - to do a revue about LA past and present, with songs by all my LA songwriting friends, sketches by folks I know and like, and I'd be the glue in terms of structure and having a song and sketch or two in the show.  One of the things the LACC guy had mentioned was a revue - I'm liking the idea but it's unwieldy and I'd have to focus it in a very short period of time.  I may query my friends and see if they'd be interested in doing it.

The timing feels right for a Paul Williams jukebox musical, or catalog musical, or whatever they call it these days.

Well, not one to sit on my ASS, I've already got Bruce Vilanch on board for whatever this LA revue is.  He loved the idea of it and is ready to go.  So, I'll query other folks.  I only want writers and songwriters who've lived here.

Is this my friend Simon's recording from England?
