Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not on the Mary Jane cigarettes, and now it is time for you to post until the Mary Jane cows come home.

Good morning, all!  I am back to Columbia this morning.  I have about six numbers left on the Moross score to check out with the full scores.

I saw the film of A Simple Plan on video several years after it was released. The film missed the tone of the book, which I purchased the first day it was released because of a great review in New York magazine. There were two great reviews in that issue, but I no longer remember the other book.  I remember several things about A Simple Plan, which I liked very much as a novel: the accuracy of the northern Ohio terrain around Toledo and State Route 75 and how much I recognized the small-town characters, farmers, and trailer trash druggies from my Ohio life.

The DH's cabaret concert yesterday was extremely well received. It was in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the local summer theatre program. The hall seats just over 500, and there were well over 300 in attendance.

Thanks for all the good vibes. It was announced a few hours ago that I have been named as a co-editor of the online journal of the Minnesota chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. It is a volunteer position, but I know I will enjoy being in that community, promoting choral excellence, and interviewing a lot of cool people. Plus I love writing and editing. So I think this is a good thing.

Monday morning greetings!  We're expecting my cousin Perry and his wife in an hour or so for brunch.  I made an egg casserole last night that I'll put in the oven soon.  I've been to Central Pastry this morning for assorted sweet rolls.  Perry & Pam are bringing cut-up fruit.  After we eat and visit here, we'll go out to visit Mom.

I don't remember hearing about the book "A Simple Plan" before seeing the movie, which I disliked. I really don't care for Fonda and found Thorton soppy, sloppy and over the top. But surprisingly, there are images that stay with me. I wish they wouldn't.

To go back to an earlier TOD I missed:

Both Destry and Grand Hotel were based on novels that became movies, but I believe the movie brands were what drove the musical adaptations. I never saw Destry, but I love the score; and Grand Hotel is one of my favorite musicals.

I did see Flashdance live. It followed the textbook of how to write a successful musical. It covered all the bases. But it had no heart and there was nothing remotely memorable (at least in a positive way) about it.
