The shuttle crashing is one of those moments that everyone I've ever talked to about it remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing...at the moment when they heard about it, and in watching it later.

Thirty years ago today, the shuttle crashed. Something else happened that day.

I was a reporter at a small daily in upstate New York and our publisher got arrested. He was found filming a porn scene with him, his best friend and the general manager of the local radio station all enjoying one of the local ladies of the evening. Drugs were confiscated from the scene, the police told us.

He refused to let us publish anything about it, which was demoralizing. He also had so much dirt on the local police force that by the time he was finished, the only charge against him was solicitation, a misdemeanor.

He eventually inherited the newspaper, sold it, squandered his money, woke up, changed his life around and ended up selling shoes.

Now THAT'S an interesting story!

The folks doing THE MUSIC MAN at the high school just asked me to make them a dance practice recording of the "76 Trombones" sequence.  Working on that now.  And wondering when the next four or five shoes are going to drop...

If they ask you to record "Marion the Librarian" dance music, I suggest recording it in two tracks, one for the right hand and one for the left - if not, run for the hills!

That is one HELL of a story, DR John G.

Oh, there's so much I can't share here. I'll save it for someone else's memoirs.

I must be on some strange lucky streak today: I was just informed there's some interest in producing Christmas Up the Holler regionally as well as a possible Christmas-in-July reading at the York Theatre

Great news. Keep us posted. That's something I'd even make a pilgrimage for -- if I can afford it.

Pride and Prejudice was published today in 1813, 203 years ago.

No, DR TCB, I was not at the publishing party, but it does remain my favorite novel!

Did you have something else scheduled for that day?

Rhymes with "witch"!  :)

Thank you, DR Ron Pulliam!

'wekkum!

I was pacing the floor with a fussy infant and Richard, as an elementary school principal, was explaining the perils of frontier exploration to several hundred children.

Had a good work session with Kay Cole and John Boswell, then had a cup of soup and an omelet and bagel.

Just saw a rough version of a cover for the new book that's starting to look like something that will work.  Doug is actually doing it, since this kind of cover isn't Grant's field of expertise.

I've been killing myself working out how best to render some of the passages in this song about some trombones, using the new improved MTI score.  Then I decided to take a look back at the old Frank Music published score, and...the light went on.  These are high school dancers, fer crying out loud, and that's what they're getting.  They don't need it fancier than that.  Cuts out half the page turns, too.  (I have ForScore on the iPad -- a concession to the 21st Century -- but I haven't put a pedal to it yet.)

Hey, at least they're getting the drum break and all, thanks to my brilliance.

I'll pound it out and send it over tomorrow morning.

Well, it's time for me to leave work and go to rehearsal for "Circle Mirror Transformation."  Hopefully, the sound and video cues have been fixed so that they work.  I'll find out soon enough.

Until later!
