All things considered, I think I'd rather be in Florence, Italy, sitting at a table in some piazza and drinking house wine while eating a calzone.

Sigh.

I have always wanted to be able to play the violin.  Especially fiddle music.. I tried for many years and I was truly dreadful...in fact I cannot play sang instrument I simply do not have the coordination and talent.  If not the violin, then the piano  or guitar

When I was going to Western Washington University to be a choir teacher (and we all know how well that turned out ;) ), I had to take several classes on how to play instruments so that I would be able to teach those instruments (just in case we had to take over a band or orchestra).  I learned to play the clarinet, bassoon, tuba, French horn, and cello, which was my favorite.

Otherwise, I really wish I had stayed with playing the piano.  I took lessons from middle school through two years of community college, but didn't continue.  At least, I can still read music and plunk out parts, but I couldn't sit down and just play anything.

No news on the book order.  I got very snippy this morning about it, and went as high up on the food chain as possible, to a fellow who's been there from the beginning and who was my first contact.  He assured me he was going to get into it right then and there.

I'm hoping (against hope?) that my CD of "Sun Valley Serenade" will await me in my mailbox at home this evening.  I'm so jealous of everyone who has gotten his or hers.

Ditto and ditto!

I don't recall reading it here at any time in the past 9 days, but does everyone here know that Rita Gam died on March 22?

TOD:  Maybe the violin.

DR Kate--you're too kind.  I just fake play the piano.  I was taught by an older gentleman who believed in short cuts.  He taught me how to play chords so I'd be able to play a song right away.  I only took lessons for about 9 months, I think.

DR Kate plays the guitar (very well), as she said, and has a very nice singing voice.

I'm going to do my utmost (or my mostut) to stay awake tonight and enjoy some TV or CDs or BDs...or, in general, just some alertness.

The day has moved along sweetly.  Am not the least bit tired or worn out, so that's something.

Instruments I play:  The B-flat clarinet (or is that "clarionet" as in "The Music Man"?)

Instruments I wish I played:  The violin, the piano and the French Horn.

How about the player piano?  You don't dream of being the player piano player?

As for singing voices, my father declared I didn't have one.  He heard me singing in our yard once when I was pruning shrubbery.  He just scoffed and said, "You can't sang!" (he indulged in countrified lingo from time to time).

Still, I enjoyed singing.   Signed up for choir when I went to college.  All you had to do was be there and you got a credit for combined semesters.

Then I got cast in a musical.  The music director was in charge of the college's "touring choir" (for which auditions brought some voice majors to their knees).  The music director was a professor for voice in the music department.

I "had" to audition for the play (because I was a theater major), and I talk-sang my way through "What Kind of Fool Am I?"   My right arm when numb about halfway through it.  I concentrated hard to remain on key, and when it was over I left the theater.  I later learned I had been asked to come back the next night.   I was cast as "Matt" in "The Fantasticks".   My father and mother were in the audience one night.   Never heard a negative word.  In fact, my father wanted to know if I wanted to audition for the North Carolina School of Performing Arts.   He said he had "no idea"....

At any rate, I didn't think I was any great shakes as Matt.  But one day, the music director asked me to come to the choir room at a specific time.  When I arrived, he introduced me as the "newest member" of the touring choir.  I was in heaven.

My friends in the regular choir hated my guts.   Some voice majors not in touring choir hated my guts.

I didn't care.  I still don't!!!
