I didn't mention Beth yesterday 'cause I knew she was doing poorly.

Now I learn she's dead.

Awww...

DR TCB:  Celebrate the things you CAN do or have LEARNED to do.

I have regrets, of sorts, about the things I can never experience again.

But, there are all kinds of possibilities...

True, but sometimes it is ok to feel bad about what we no longer can do.

Today is Liza Doolittle Day and here's my beloved Annalene Beechey with conductor John Wilson, Anthony Edwards, Alum Armstrong, Sian Phillips, Julian Ovenden, and others from the 2012 concert.

Nice picture, Elmore!  Happy Liza Doolittle Day, everyone!

John G. This may be too late but a Skip has in the past allowed me to share so

For six hard boiled eggs   Mash yolks with  2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons mayo, 1 tsp Dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons crumbled bleu  cheese, salt & pepper to taste  3 tablespoons bacon bits (reserve a little for garnish)

The bleu cheese and the bacon.   Oh my.  I generally expend the recipe to. 2 or 3 dozen eggs depending on the crowd because people will eat 4 or 6 of the halves.... They are sooooo good

It is a great recipe.   Skip confirms that there's no problem sharing it, of course!  (He's flattered.)   :)

It sounds delish!  I save the recipe for future possibilities.

Topic of the Day:  in my CD player right now:  The Kingston Trio's Born at the Right Time.  I got it at the concert on Wednesday and they autographed it!

TOD

CD:
The Fantasticks - original cast
The Fantasticks - 2006 revival cast
The Fantasticks in Jazz - Trotter Trio

BLU:
The Fantasticks

Have you heard the Japan Tour CD?  It's an American production but was performed in Japan.  It has just Piano and Harp - with Harvey Schmidt at the piano.  It's great for the orchestrations alone.

I have not, and I'm ordering it right now.  Thanks, DR Matthew!

Continued vibes to Larry's friend with cancer and to JRand's mom.

May they both have full recoveries.

I don't need to tell any of you that LA NOW AND THEN is a very smart and funny show. That BK is a clever guy and knows his way around musicals. You all know that. I will say a few things, though.

the show's opening number, THIS IS THE CITY, really gets the ball rolling, so to speak. It's very catchy and really gets the audience into the spirit of the show. Tremendous energy, which continues throughout Act I. Act II includes some darker material, which is reflected in the songs, but it never gets too dark or belabors the point. Act II closes with lots of energy.

The kids looked like they were having a WONDERFUL time. Pure joy on many of their faces.  I don't see that very often any more.

I was pleased to see Robert Yacko in person. I knew from HHW clips that he has a fine voice, but I didn't know what a capable actor he is. He did a beautiful job with both the Uber sketch and the one about the older gay man.

The songs are terrific, with BK's songs the best, IMO. I loved the orchestrations and the 6-piece band covered so much ground. It was a really fun show.

I'd really like to see a professional production of this. The show deserves it. That said, you really wouldn't know that this was a college production. Or how quickly everything was rehearsed and had to come together. It really was amazing.

The traffic, however, was HORRIBLE. I usually allow extra time, which means I tend to arrive early. That was the plan yesterday, as well. But it was bumper-to-bumper traffic from my apartment to Richard's salon, and then all the way to LACC. Ugh. And there's nothing one can do except try to be patient. We arrived just in the nick of time.

The people in front of me at the box office were told that the show was sold out. When I gave my name to Miss BO she was a bit slow. Knowing the problems, I was trying to be patient. The next thing I knew BK was standing next to me, telling her my name in a very forceful voice. "Yes, yes, I have them," she said. Good thing, too.

I can just about imagine the very forceful voice of BK in that circumstance.

Oh yes indeed.     :)

And I am home from the Frank Loesser office.  The damned No. 7 bus is running slowly.  I waited 20 minutes for a bus that sholud arrive every 8 minutes.  I was not amused.
