Last night a man liked our Facebook page only to write that his wife attend OGP last night, and that the language offended their religious beliefs.....so he was offended, and wasn't even there.

I replied we are obligated to present the play as written.  Sorry they were offended, but they might also want to stay away from 1776 since it also contained historical language....there was a sign in the lobby.....and thanks for liking our page only to post something negative.

I waited an hour and he didn't respond, so I deleted the comment and my comments.

Putnam County Playhouse We are obligated to present the show as written. There was also a sign in the lobby that mentioned strong language. We are sorry that you were offended. Our next show, '1776' does also contain some strong historical language, so you might consider not attending that one as well.

What a astounding response to such an established work.

There's a surprise every day.

I haven't seen it on stage.  Just out of curiosity, is the "offensive language" in the film version, too, or was it cleaned up a bit?

It could be context for On Golden Pond.  Even in the very freewheeling 1970's, the play is mostly so gentle in its substantial charm that I think the prominent use of "G-damned" and "S.O.B." and "B.S." (the full words, that is) had a certain amount of potency when they're heard. and it's possible that "you old poop" and "sucking face" are also counted.

Heads up, anyone who's a card carrying B&N member:

This Saturday -- tomorrow -- is a double discount one-day STORE event during which your 10% discount is doubled to 20%.  Books, CDs, you name it, and of course it must be noted that it brings $40.00 Criterions down to $16.00 since the 50%-off sale is still running.

I think all of your names pop up on my tablet when I am typing.   I noticed  TCB,  George  & Vixmom first as they are  most often the DR'S on at night when I'm using my tablet.

I am curious,  can that warning be seen prior to purchasing the tickets online?

If someone has religious beliefs that include language then perhaps they should use their Internet prowess and Google the play.  If they can find Facebook, they can find Google.  They have the choice to walk out of the theater.  But that's not enough.  They have to find a Facebook page so that everyone can see their thing.  I never cease to be surprised by this stuff.

We do not sell tickets online DR JANE.

After some thought, and looking at his Facebook page....I do not think the words B.S. (used four times) or Hell (also used four times) were his problem.  Several times the characters say Oh God....and the like.  I think that's what it is.

I deleted the comment and the thread - it's not worth continuing the conversation.  He had not commented in more than two hours after my post.

Of course his wife could have been offended by the name of the Girls' Camp....

DR CHAS SMITH  the language in the play is pretty much what you hear in the movie.  Maybe she just forgot she was at a theatre and not in church.

Last night I watched "The Gang's All Here" on Blu-ray disc.

I know that Fox scrapped the Technicolor negatives ages ago and all the releases of this movie have been culled from best-available elements.

That said, I am not sure how I feel about this "new scan" for Blu ray.   It's darker than most Technicolor I've seen.  And in some scenes, Benny Goodman looks more like a waxwork figure than a human being.

And THAT said:  The flesh tones look right and there is certainly color.  And it's clean.  it's sharp.  And it's one of my favorite indulgences.

Can't rave about it just yet.  I have to experience it a few more times.

I noticed the darkness, too, but I've never owned a print of it so can't speak to whether that's right or not - but color is pretty great.

Did a two and a half mile jog, am scarfing down a low-cal small tortilla with a bit of low cal cheese (under two hundred calories all in) and now rehearsal.

I think it's mostly the darkness that caught me off-guard.  But for sure there is vivid color.

George - Thanks so much for your comment last night!!!

You're welcome.  But I realize that I didn't read your post very thoroughly.  I could've gotten a free copy directly from you, but I really don't mind contributing to your income. ;D

Screwed by Staples again! The print shop black and white printer is down since yesterday and they have no idea when the maintenance personnel will show up. The weekday manager is wonderful and I will only go in when she's there.

So, at the moment I am royally screwed/  I have no idea now how to handle this print job, goddammit.

I don't know why, but this kind of reminded me of when we at the library were thinking of affiliating with an official union.  We'd had our own internal "Staff Association" for years but wanted something more official, and especially reps with more knowledge of employment law (we didn't know what we didn't know).  Employees could opt out of joining our Staff Association, but only members could vote.  When we were getting ready to vote, several people opted in, voted against it, then opted back out.  It didn't help.  We had more than enough yes votes to affiliate.  It was a rough first couple of years (mainly because of the crap that the then administration pulled), but we have a whole new administration now and things (especially negotiations) have been going very well.

Random tangent:  The movie S.O.B. with Julie Andrews was on TCM last week.  I wonder if THAT would offend them?
