Possible topic: have you ever been in a theater when an illness or accident took place, either onstage or in the audience?
(or have we done that one before?)
In Cleveland, around 1968 or 1969 when the Metropolitan Opera was still doing its tours, I was in the typically inappropriate, cavernous, Cleveland City Auditorium or whatever it was called, watching (I think)
Trovatore. Suddenly, during a quiet scene, someone screamed a few times and I saw some scurrying around about a mile from my seat. And that was it. I never learned what happened.
In L.A., early 1980s, I was watching a film at the Royal on Santa Monica Blvd. (a few blocks west of the Nuart), and something of a similar nature happened but without the noise. They turned the lights on and held the film while the ambulance got there and took the person out. The movie was one of those takes on
Carmen.
Apparently, the operatic world carries a certain amount of risk.
