Well, I only saw the first act of "The Fantasticks." I had to leave after intemission to be able to get to the TAO auditions in time. A couple of months ago, I posted about a production that I saw in Portland, Oregon directed by a friend of mine, where they added mothers and split the lines between them. Well, this production (which only played this weekend) was directed by the same guy, and he added mothers to this production, too! WTH? It was otherwise well done and well cast with good singers, except for the mothers (who shouldn't have been there), Matt's father (I forget his character's name), and El Gallo. Matt's father always seemed like he did not know many of his lines. El Gallo was a good performer, but he was a kid...probably just out of high school. Much too young for the role.
And that's my 2 cents.
